Description

From New York Times bestselling author Kelly Elliott comes the gut-wrenching story of a love that transcends all odds—and transforms the deepest pain into the brightest hope.

Firefighter and first responder Preston Ward thought he had grown immune to the job’s emotional burns. But when he goes out on a particularly tragic call, he realizes that some scenes are too devastating to forget. And yet, if it weren’t for that terrible night, he never would have met the woman who makes him want to risk his heart.

More than once, Harmony Banks has watched her perfectly ordered world torn apart by fate. Now she’s finding out that what she lost wasn’t as perfect as she thought—and it’s tearing her apart. The only thing that keeps her going is the kindness of a stranger: the firefighter who saved her life the night everything changed.

Preston isn’t like the men who have come before. For one thing, he’s far more genuine. And the love Harmony feels growing between them is almost too intense for her wounded soul. But if she and Preston can push past heartbreak, they’ll find that something incredible awaits in each other’s arms.

A Touching Love Story

Searching for Harmony is a well-written, poignant romantic story.

Harmony was devastated when she discovered that she was the only survivor of a car crash. Her husband and baby son were both gone. Jake, her brother, the only family that she had left, cried by her bedside in the hospital. Harmony’s parents weren’t coming to support her; they had disowned her when she had refused to get an abortion. And, even though, she knew that her brother hurt for her, she felt alone in her pain. Harmony would find, though, that in her darkest hour, slivers of hope would seep through the cracks of her heart.

Consumed with guilt and haunted by his failure, firefighter, Preston Ward set out to befriend Harmony, the woman of his nightmares. He only meant to ease her pain, but in doing so, ended up turning both of their lives upside down.

Searching For Harmony is a touching story about love, loss, and the courage that it takes for a person who has been hurt in the past, to open their heart and risk being vulnerable again.

I found this book, easy to read, enjoyable, and emotionally charged.

I received this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review

This one was just OK for me.

I have to start this review by saying that I will read almost any kind of romance – from sweet to smut (and I do love a good smutty book). I’m starting with that because there was something about the sex scenes and some of the language in this book that bothered me. I’m trying to find a way to describe how I feel about it and the best thing that I can come up with is the language during the sex scenes seemed forced. For me it just didn’t fit with the tone of the rest of the book which leaned towards the sweet side.

I’ve run across this before and it seems like some authors try to sex up or spice up their stories by almost randomly adding “dirty” words during the sex scenes. Hot and dirty sex scenes are wonderful if they fit with the tone of the rest of the book and for me it didn’t work with this one. At times I got distracted by the language and got pulled out of the story.

Other than what I mention above I liked the story and felt that the writing was very good. The story is horribly sad in places (read the book blurb) yet optimistic in others. Preston and Harmony have a real connection and I felt that connection strongly except during the sex scenes. These two characters go through a lot before they get to their HEA but they do get there and the epilogue was a much appreciated part of the book. I really do enjoy books with a good epilogue!

I didn’t hate this book but I didn’t love it. It’s the first in a new series called Boston Love and I would be willing to read another story in this series to see if there’s any improvement in the writing.

Searching For Harmony

What a beautiful story about life after a horrific loss. Harmony looses her husband and her son in an auto accident. She is devastated and has no support system, other than her brother, to help her while she grieves.
Harmony tries to throw herself into school and work, but that is hard to do when she can't get any sleep because of the horrible nightmares.
Preston is the fireman who worked on Harmony’s son. He is having a hard time dealing with the loss of little TJ. He checks in on Harmony often during her convalescence. He is warned by his chief to “not get emotionally involved.”
Preston helps give Harmony the will to want to live again, but can she open heart to him? Can she let herself love again?
Kelly Elliot has written a beautiful story. If you like contemporary romance with a little heat, you’ll like this book.
