A magical journey into the lives of a modern family. Not one of blood or marriage but a family of the heart. Mary Alice Monroe has captured the fantasy and magic of childhood and brought it right back into the readers own heart. She has made a believer out of me. 5 Stars for Second Star
Romance, realism, mystery, fantasy, tidbits of a famous book of another era; what reader could ask for more? And as the reader I was captured immediately into the author's writing, I was carried along through each chapter, and then at the end hesitant to give up my relationship with the characters. The characters all had some complexity to the reasons why they behaved the way the did and so the reader is driven to move forward with the story in order to learn the answers AND find out how they all will be healed inside and out? Loved this story.
Second Star to The Right
Mary Alice Monroe manages to blur the lines between reality and fantasy in this delightful tale. The author shared with her readers what was happening in her life at the time she was writing this book, she was taking care of her dying Mom…. so “Second Star To The Right” holds a special place in her heart and in turn with us, the reader.
Faye, a single Mom escaping an abusive relationship journeys to London to give herself and her children a fresh start. Raising her children Maddie and Tom not to believe in Fairy Tales, she is taken aback when they both fall for the charming Wendy that lives upstairs in the flat they have rented. Wendy fills the children’s heads with wonderful stories of Peter Pan and trips to Neverland. She opens up their world to magic and fantasy because she herself still believes, in fact she claims to be Peter Pan’s Wendy!!
Also living in Flat #14 is Jack, a brilliant Professor looking for answers to his own past. He soon finds he has ties to Wendy from long ago.
Jack is also drawn to Faye and her children realizing no matter how successful he is, the biggest part of life that he is missing out on is the love and stability of a family.
“Second Star To The Right” is a wonderful story about healing and finding the love and magic in the everyday issues we all face and to never stop believing in magic no matter how old we get.
