Love Lizzie and Blue!
I always enjoy Addison Cole’s books. This time we get to meet and spend time with Lizzie Barber and Blue Ryder. These two are amazing people all on their own and they are always going above and beyond for their families and others especially Lizzie. They have an amazing friendship and Blue wants to take that friendship into a relationship however he’s been hurt in the past and Lizzie has a secret that she’s afraid to share with Blue much less her family and best friend Sky. However they decide to take a chance and as they become closer Lizzie decides to share her secret with Blue. Blue feels as though she is like his ex and they have to work to keep what they’ve worked so hard for. I appreciated that Blue was willing to sit down and talk to Lizzie about the situation and that he even went as far as trying to mend fences between Lizzie and her father. I was rooting for these two the entire time. I listened to this audio book narrated by Melissa Moran. I feel like she always does such a great job narrating Addison Cole’s books and is very consistent with voicing all the different characters we meet when we listen.
So Much Love!
Addison Cole wrote a clean and captivating story with this book. I love it when an author allows the listener’s imagination to take over for the scene behind closed doors. The premise of the Naked Baker was great. I love how selfless Lizzie was to provide her sister with the education she wanted. The relationship of Blue and Lizzie was friends to lovers, which is a favorite genre of mine. O loved Blue’s pursuit of Lizzie. Lizzie had much to deal with in this book, her parental approval/disapproval was huge motivation for her to succeed. Melissa Moran performed this book beautifully with her eloquent narration and appropriate emotions. Love is the recurring theme in this book, and one feels good listening. The added humor in the story was great. I loved her friends too!
This is the story of Lizzie Barber and Blue Ryder. Lizzie grew up in a very conservative household. Her parents ran a bed and breakfast, and when Lizzie was in college, her parents had financial problems and couldn't help pay for her college tuition. Eventually Lizzie had a huge student loan and no real prospect of paying it off anytime in the near future. After some suggestions by a friend, Lizzie started a cooking webcast that she did entirely on her own. It wasn't your typical cooking show though. Because of the way Lizzie was raised, she felt completely ashamed of herself for doing the kind of show she did, but she was determined to pay off her loans and open her own flower shop. Through hard work and good business decisions, she was able to earn enough to do exactly what she wanted. Unfortunately, Lizzie has a younger sister who has just begun college and Lizzie is doing her best to keep her webcast going and save enough money to continue to pay for her sisters tuition so she can graduate without student loans hanging over her head. While Lizzie is tired of living her secret life, she is proud of herself for working hard and raising the money she has over the years. It's the one thing though that's keeping her from saying yes to Blue when he asks her out. She doesn't think anyone could understand why she does what she does.
Blue has wanted to go out with Lizzie since the first time he met her. Unfortunately, she turned him down. Just like she has continued to do for the past year. They're still good friends though and he's working on remodeling her kitchen, so he's always around. One day, Blue finally wears Lizzie down, and she agrees to go out with him. Blue learned so much more about Lizzie and her giving heart, that he couldn't help falling for her. Until the day Lizzie tells him about her secret. Blue really struggled with it at first. But he cared too much about her to let her video webcast destroy what they had.
This was such a great story. It had just enough heat and chemistry between the characters, but also showed the struggles some couples go through. The relationship wasn't all roses and sunshine. They faced real obstacles. Not just from her webcast, but also from her family. And Blue was human. He was a super sweet guy that didn't handle it well when Lizzie explained about her show, but quickly realized that it just a business and a means to an end. I enjoyed not only getting to know Lizzie and Blue, but also the rest of the characters in the book. I highly recommend this book.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
