Card's fifth novel narrated by Julian "Bean" Delphiki (after Shadow of the Giant) mingles transcendent strangeness and didacticism. On a spaceship cut off from the rest of civilization, Julian is raising his three remarkable children, doomed to die young by the engineered genes that also make them inhumanly brilliant. Triplets Cincinnatus, Carlotta, and Ender (named for Bean's old classmate) are only six years old and already smarter than nearly any adult, but just as emotionally immature as any children. Bean tries setting them up as an incestuously reproducing super-race who will be parents at age eight and dead at 22, but when an unidentified alien ship appears, the children eagerly embrace a less depressing way to prove themselves. Bean's endless lectures make him appear a mouthpiece for the author; his children's snarky resentment of being talked down to will similarly ring true for readers.

Good, not great.
Seems awfully short. This felt like half a story.
Great but abridged version
I finished reading this book. It was so damned short. Then I wondered why. And I wikied it like I would anything else to read the plot to understand it better because it felt difficult to understand. I could have done it before but I can't ever skip the plot summary so I waited till I finished the book. Anyways turns out this is an abridged version. Hence, the original version being on preorder. I was very disappointed. I was going to go out and buy the book anyways but now I really will have to and reread it but at least it will be the full version. If u look at both versions, the non enhanced has a approximately 100 more pages to it. Just letting u guys know
Can I get a refund?
After reading the Ender's Shadow series, all about the life of Bean and other of Enders jeesh mates, and loving every minute of every word.... Shadows in Flight is a huge disappointment. As engaged as I was in Bean's life in the first four books, this fifth and last one left me feeling as though it was written about a different person completely called The Giant and his 3 incredibly precocious 6-year-olds. The book is less than 200 pages of actual story and truly develops almost nothing during that time. In my opinion I would call this one a "why bother" and give everyone who asks their money back just to keep the readers good will. And yes I'm asking.
