She's Got a Way

Book 3, An Echo Lake Novel - An Echo Lake Novel

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Gabriela O’Brien is devoted to the girls at Briarwood Academy—even when their bad behavior earns them an entire summer at a remote campground in Echo Lake, Vermont. When the headmaster assigns Gabi to be their chaperone, how can she refuse? A long, hot summer with neither indoor plumbing nor wireless access might be just what she needs to get her own life in order…right?

Before Briarwood took over Camp Echo, Luke Magellan spent years there helping troubled boys. When four spoiled rich girls and their seemingly uptight den mother show up for the summer, it’s hard to hide his amusement as he watches them tackle the great outdoors. But it’s even tougher to resist the passion he sees in Gabi—especially when he learns about her past, and sees how much she cares about her students. Is this destined to be just a grownup version of a summer-camp romance—or can they find enough in common to build a love for all seasons?

“A new, witty voice in contemporary romance. Maggie McGinnis is gonna make you smile.”—Christie Craig, New York Times bestselling author

She's Got a Way is the third book in Maggie McGinnis' Echo Lake series!

From Publishers Weekly

Jul 25, 2016 – In this charming contemporary, third in the Echo Lake series (following Heart Like Mine), Gabriela O'Brien, the idealistic house mother to a quartet of troublesome prep-school girls, finds unexpected love and fulfillment after she and her charges are temporarily exiled to a rundown camp for a month. Meant as a last-ditch punishment for the girls, it's no picnic for Gabi either, and she sees her chances of making a difference at the elite Briarwood Academy slipping away. But Camp Echo's hunky handyman, Luke Magellan, has a knack for helping people: soon he's showing Gabi's students how to work together and survive in the outdoors, while teaching Gabi the ways of love. With a wry, self-aware sense of the rules of romantic comedy, this romance hits all the usual notes. McGinnis crafts a sweet, emotionally layered tale about dropping barriers to let one's true nature shine, and the result is an entertaining, if predictable, happily ever after.

Customer Reviews

In typical Maggie McGinnis fashion, this story is sweet, heartwarming, funny, and not to be missed! She's taking us back to Echo Lake where Luke Magellan has been working hard to get his beloved Camp Echo back in operational shape. He's spent years there helping troubled boys find their way in life, giving back to them the guidance they need, just as he had needed all those years ago. The camp has been taken over by Briarwood but he's hoping to convince them to let him continue running it just as it's been for years now. Suddenly he finds himself faced with one upset woman and four angry teenage girls. Gabriela O’Brien was told she was dropping the girls at camp. A camp they were being sent to because of some trouble they had found themselves in. What she finds isn't a camp at all. No cabins, no bathrooms....nothing!! How can she leave these four girls here? Luke is just as surprised at the arrival of the four spoiled rich girls and can't believe anyone would send them here. But here they are and he will just have to deal with it. Besides, watching these ladies deal with the rugged outdoors might be quite entertaining. Getting to know the lovely Gabriela is just a side benefit!

I highly recommend this one!!

It was well written with very likeable characters.

I have never read anything from this author before but I thought the story sounded interesting and wanted to give her a try.

Gabriela O'Brien is a housemother at the wealthy girls boarding school, Briarwood Academy. When four of her girls get caught stealing a school van and taking it to another state to visit boys, the headmaster tells Gabi that these four girls, along with her are spending their four weeks of summer vacation at Camp Echo Lake. Gabi was planning on being on plane in a few days to go to Barbados and is not happy with her sudden change of plans.

Luke Magellan is camp counselor and handy man at Camp Echo Lake, a camp for teen boys who are having trouble in their lives. Luke has worked here for the owner, Oliver for 10 years and owes him a great deal. When Oliver has to sell the camp because of money issues, they find out that the camp has been bought by Briarwood Academy. Both of them are nervous that it is going to change into a camp for rich, spoiled girls.

When Gabi, Madison, Sam, Eve and Waverly arrive at Camp Echo Lake, they are shocked. How are they suppose to live in this type of environment! Luke has a fun timing playing up their fears! The things he has these girls doing was great! The way Luke handled the girls was awesome. I love how he was able to get them to do things.

It was fun watching Gabi and Luke slowly start to like each other. Each of them were hiding secrets from their pasts and when they were finally revealed it made a lot of sense. Both of these characters had hearts of gold that they didn't want others seeing. Once they both took their guards down, everything starting falling into place. I really liked the interaction with the teenage girls. Each of them were different but still alike in many ways. I really enjoyed the story this group went through. If you are looking for a sweet, funny romance, give this book a try. It was well written with very likeable characters.

Unique and Fresh

I really loved this book. The characters were awesome and I loved the out of the box setting.
