The SOS Agency grants one Navy SEAL his most personal mission yet…
Home on leave at his family farm, Navy SEAL Cooper Johnson receives an unexpected assignment: to protect a beautiful socialite on the run from her abusive ex. Grieving his kid sister, a brave cop killed in the line of duty due to a faulty bulletproof vest, Coop is in no mood for work—until he meets Meg Taylor. Soon, he finds that riding the land, lovely Meg safe beside him, is a surprising comfort to his heart. But when he discovers Meg's dark past—and the evidence she possesses that her ex would kill to keep buried—it will take both the cowboy and SEAL within him to get the ultimate justice.
Meg has finally escaped her abusive husband with the help of her friend Lacey and her husband thanks to their SOS Agency. They've also arranged for a safe place and protection until she can find the documentation she needs to put her soon to be ex-husband in prison. Meg knows she's on her own (except for her little dog Sophie that doesn't like men), she doesn't trust anyone, and she doesn't want to put anyone else in danger.
While home on leave helping his mother, Coop a Navy SEAL is asked by his former squad leader to protect a woman and her ferocious dog, who is in trouble. Jarrett wouldn't give him any additional information about Meg other than he needed to train her dog. Coop would do anything for Jarrett, but family comes first.
This is a very touching romantic suspense story that covers some strong issues. Physical abuse, death of family members, dangers of mafia, death of police that should've been protected, Navy SEALS, SOS underground railroad that promises safe shelter and help to start over from their abused spouse, but ends with a HEA. This was my first SOS Agency story, but it won't be my last. I was enthralled from the very beginning, I had to find out what happened next. Although this was the 2nd book in the series, I didn't feel as though I missed anything. However I'm sure I did. I do plan to go read the first book, I cannot wait to see what Bonnie comes out with next for the SOS Agency series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book via Tasty Book Tours through NetGalley in exchange for an honest blog tour review. Due to adult situations, this book is recommended for readers 16 and older.
Favorite Passage ~
New dreams, for dreams were countless as the stars. Life wasn’t an absolute. It was wonderfully gray and purple and blue and pink and all the colors in between.
I am a sucker for the domestic abuse victim on the run trope. I am also a sucker for the Navy SEAL bodyguard trope. So, as you can imagine, I was really looking forward to Shielded by the Cowboy SEAL. I enjoyed book 1 in the series because it had a really engaging plot line that was believable in today's world!
Meg is fleeing her abusive husband, Prescott, and also trying to show the world that Prescott knew about faulty bullet proof vests that were manufactured and sent them to law enforcement anyway. Meg contacts her friend Lacey to get some help escaping and makes it from Florida to New England to stay with Cooper, the Navy SEAL who works for SOS agency providing protection. Meg is not only worried that Prescott will find her, but she feels strongly that she has to notify authorities of Prescott knowingly sending bad body armor to law enforcement officers. This knowledge puts her in even more danger.
Can Meg trust Cooper? Will Cooper be able to forgive her when he learns that she is M.E. Franklin? Who will Prescott kill in order to keep everything quiet? The mystery/suspense aspect of the story is well written and engaging. I struggled with Cooper at times because he was very judgmental of Meg. He looked at her and saw only her appearance and judged her as a spoiled princess who had been given everything in life. He had a hard time letting that go as well, which was frustrating at times. Even if she was spoiled, that doesn't make her a bad person or any less of a victim. I thought Meg was a well written character. She is exactly what I would expect of someone in her situation-she let Prescott charm her, then slowly things began to turn. He manipulates her over time until there is nothing left of her any more and he controls everything. Her nice car, expensive clothes, and shiny jewelry is a mask for the violence and hatred that occurs behind closed doors. Because her victimization was so believable to me, I wanted Cooper to be nicer to her. She needed someone in the world to be in her corner! I thought the story was well crafted and full of twists and turns that will keep you reading!
Shielded by the Cowboy SEAL by Bonnie Vanak is book number two in the SOS Agency series. This is Navy SEAL Cooper Johnson and Meg Taylor's story.
Cooper is on leave to help his mother with the family farm. Also, it has only been six months since his sister was killed in the line of duty as a cop due to a defective bulletproof vest. He is determined to find who is responsible for the defective vest. Family comes before anyone or anything else.
Meg needs a safe place to get away from her abusive husband. Cooper agrees to keep Meg safe at his family farm. There is definitely chemistry between them but neither or in a positon for a relationship. There are things from Meg's past that she hasn't shared with Cooper because she doesn't know who she can trust. How will Cooper react when he learns what Meg has been keeping from him?
This story has it all! A Navy Seal and he is also a cowboy plus you get suspense, passion, danger, and dealing with emotional issues. I loved Cooper and Meg's story.
