Sixteen Civil War widows living in St. Louis respond to a series of meetings conducted by a land speculator who lures them west by promising "prime homesteads" in a "booming community." Unbeknownst to them, the speculator's true motive is to find an excuse to bring women to the fledging community of Plum Grove, Nebraska, in hopes they will accept marriage proposals shortly after their arrival!
Sparks fly when these unsuspecting widows meet the men who are waiting for them. These women are going to need all the courage and faith they can muster to survive these unwanted circumstances--especially when they begin to discover that none of them is exactly who she appears to be.
I absolutely fell in love with this cast of characters. Hettie, Caroline, Ruth, Zita, Ella, Martha, and Linny are the most downright beautiful women I have met since reading my last Stephanie Grace Whitson novel. Her way of weaving God's message into the lives of early homesteders is wondrous. She is my new fav author.
Sixteen Brides is the best
I read a lot of books that are Christian historical fictions. I was told By my Librarian that this book would be good. It's not just good it is hands do awesome. In my opinion it's a book I recommend anyone to read.
Although at first I thought I'd be trying to figure out and keep in mind 16 brides (& their intended grooms), as the book quickly reduced it to a handful, I quickly became engrossed in their lives. What an unusual plot, yet I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED it! I look forward to reading more from this very gifted author.
