ONE NIGHT. THAT'S ALL IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.
Reeling from the sudden loss of her sister, Haddie Montgomery has sworn off relationships. All she wanted from Beckett Daniels was a sexy distraction to help her escape her pain for just a little while....There weren’t supposed to be any strings attached—so why can’t she shake the memory of that unforgettable night from her thoughts? Or the taste of his kiss from her lips?
No matter how hard Haddie tries to forget about him, Becks relentlessly tries to prove that she should start living for today. But she is determined to avoid romantic commitment, and she can always use her ex-boyfriend’s reappearance to help snuff out the slow burn within her that Becks has sparked....
Or will fate force her to realize that this kind of connection doesn’t come along very often and a chance at love is worth the risk?
Fight like a girl
Have tissues on hand when reading this book! It takes you for a ride through many emotions, from falling in love to fighting like a girl!
I was already a huge Driven fan, not that you need to have read that series to dive into this book...but I did not think K. Bromberg could outdo herself and she has solidified herself as an amazing writer with Slow Burn. This book is hot, beautifully written and I didn't want to put it down! Becks is everything a girl wants in her Book Boyfriend. I highly recommend this emotionally charged story with another strong female lead. Loved!!!!
Took my time reading because I needed time to process this difficult topic. It got real.
Haddie and Beckett's story.
It's an attention grabber. It's a page turner. I do not want to put it down. I want to lock myself inside my room and hide all day to read this story. I love stories that pull me away from my world and light it on fire with hot sexy men like Beckett. It's a seductive and sassy romance. I'm captivated and addicted to the story.
This story makes me want a do-over. I miss the game. I miss the beginning stages of a relationship when all that mattered was the sex and life did not get in the way.
So it starts off great but then the doubt begins for Haddie and then to me. The story was depressing and too intense. I had an internal battle with myself towards Haddie and her inability to move past her fears.
Haddie's character is scared to go to the doctor and afraid to fall in love and become attached to someone for fear of losing them.
I enjoy the moments in the story when Kirsty always makes sure to remember Lexi and keep her memories alive everyday. I love Kirsty but for me Haddie's problems are frustrating. Haddie lives with too much doubt and grief.
Haddie's ability to deny herself from living a normal life is frustrating. Her indecisiveness is giving me whiplash. Even if Haddie has cancer does make her undesirable. People need support and she is pushing that support away.
I'm tired of Haddie's games.
However, I do adore Beckett and can wrap myself around his country sexiness. I love how seductive he is. Beckett is who captures my heart and carries it in this story. Beckett is the dream man. Kirsty was smart with Beckett's character because without him I would have stopped reading this story. Beckett held it together for me.
I know people are going to disagree with my review but this topic hit too close to home for me and the way Haddie's character dealt with this topic was nerve racking for me. Haddie's pessimism was a hard pill to swallow and I wanted her to persevere. If it was not was not for Rylee saying the words I wanted to shout at her I would have given up on this story. A tough subject to read and deal with but a necessary topic indeed. It was sad and heartwarming and real.
