Book 2, Tulsa Thunderbirds
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
USA Today bestselling author Catherine Gayle presents the first novel in the Tulsa Thunderbirds hockey romance series, a spin-off from her popular Portland Storm series.
When dark desperation meets opportunity…
On a celebratory trip with his best friend, Ray “Razor” Chambers meets sultry Viktoriya Dubrovskaya and immediately recognizes the desperation in her eyes—a sight he remembers all too well. Permanently in survival mode, the destitute and broken Viktoriya makes him an offer—a proposition he immediately refuses. However, Razor’s counter-offer changes everything for her.
A lifetime of opportunity.
But learning to live together as husband and wife is as foreign as interpreting Smoke Signals. And where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.
CONTENT WARNING: contains graphic and potentially disturbing descriptions of abuse, both physical and sexual.

an emotional roller coaster with personal growth and strength with a bit of hockey thrown in
Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
So I just learned about Catherine Gayle and the Portland Storm series earlier this year when I met her at Dallas RT. I was fortunate enough to be the winner of her Portland Storm give away. I quickly devoured the whole series and continued to devour each book in her hockey series that she has released. I love all of them and Smoke Signals was no different.
We meet Razor in the Portland storm series where he is mainly the arrogant friend of our favorite Babs. Smoke Signals shows us a deeper perspective in to his life and character. Tori is also a very complex character with a tormented past. The book really illustrated the theme of not judging a person by their cover. Although the book has very adult subject matter it is presented in a mature manner.
I enjoyed watching Razor and Tori grow as individuals and as a couple through the book. I couldn't put the book down once I started. I loved seeing more of Tallie and Hunter as well as seeing a new side of Dima. Can you say melt when we see Harper and Dima???? Razor's relationship with his mother is inspirational.
I would give this book more than 5 stars if possible. If you are looking for an emotional roller coaster with personal growth and strength with a bit of hockey thrown in, this is your series and book!
I received an advanced copy of this book with the understanding I'd provide an honest review.
I fell in love with hockey romances with Deidre Martin's series and through that discovered Catherine Gayle.
Catherine's latest book, Smoke Signals is probably my favorite of her books so far. She takes a real life subject and writes a tender love story filled with the ugly side of life that many face every day.
Sexual abuse disguised as porn and prostitution and the desperation of men and women who reach that level is something most of us don't think about because it doesn't affect our daily life. Catherine prolifically show us how that desperation turns to triumph in Razor and Tori's story.
Razor hides his big heart from the world because it's what he's used to doing to protect himself. Tori has built a wall around her heart to survive the turn her life has taken. Falling in love crumbles the wall and shows both of them that love and trust are greater than any thing the past holds.
You will needs tissues handy and be prepared for laughter as Tori gets a lesson in the Southern way of blessing someone's heart lol.
I hope you enjoy Smoke Signals as much as I did. I can't wait for Dimi's story!!
Another awesome book!
I received an ARC of this book for a review.
I thoroughly enjoy reading Catherine Gayle. She is a talented author. She writes about taboo topics that touch your heart.
I was never really a fan of Razor. He seemed to arrogant but it turned out he had a reason for that arrogance. He is an amazing guy with a heart of gold.
Tori is a desperate woman in need of a caring and strong person to help her through her pain. In steps Razor.
I would recommend this book to everyone.
