Book 4, The Giver Quartet

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

They called her Water Claire. When she washed up on their shore, no one knew that she came from a society where emotions and colors didn’t exist. That she had become a Vessel at age thirteen. That she had carried a Product at age fourteen. That it had been stolen from her body. Claire had a son. But what became of him she never knew. What was his name? Was he even alive? She was supposed to forget him, but that was impossible. Now Claire will stop at nothing to find her child, even if it means making an unimaginable sacrifice. Son thrusts readers once again into the chilling world of the Newbery Medal winning book, The Giver, as well as Gathering Blue and Messenger where a new hero emerges. In this thrilling series finale, the startling and long-awaited conclusion to Lois Lowry’s epic tale culminates in a final clash between good and evil.

From Publishers Weekly

Sep 10, 2012 – Drawing characters and themes from The Giver and its companions, Gathering Blue and Messenger, Lowry concludes her Giver Quartet nearly 20 years after the Newbery Medal winning first book was published. The story is divided into three sections, and in the completely absorbing opening, Lowry transports readers back to the horrifying world from which Jonas came. The spotlight is on 14-year-old Claire, a Birthmother who is given an emergency Caesarean to save the Product. The child survives, but Claire is coldly decertified and sent to work elsewhere, mystified as to what happened to her and her baby. Those familiar with The Giver will feel the pieces fall into place as Claire figures out which Product is hers and tracks his progress. Part two details Claire s decade-long struggle to remember who she is, and it suffers slightly from having a main character afflicted with a well-worn plot device (amnesia); the final third reunites characters from all three previous novels for a showdown with evil incarnate. If the latter sections don t quite keep up with the thrilling revelations of the first, Lowry still ties together these stories in a wholly satisfying way. Ages 12 up.

The Giver Series

All students and adults should read an discuss this series . They have great topics that should be shared.

Oh my glob!

Holy crap holy cramp holy moly caboly! Seriously the Giver was such and awesome book and that's one of the few books in my entire life that I wanted a sequel to more than anything! I read it in middle school or 5th grade I think and I'm in college now. I can't believe I had to wait so long to get what I wanted. I hope it s good!

So good!

The Giver
Gathering Blue

& finally the Son!

I had read the Giver, not knowing that there was two books after it, not including the Son! I had overheard somebody talking about a new book that Lois Lowry wrote and I decided to look into it, and boy was I glad I did! I figured out that there are 2 books in between Giver and Son, so I suggest reading those if you have read the Giver before you dive into the Son. Gathering Blue and Messenger are almost two separate stories, but they are in fact not. A little bit of the Giver's story is linked in if you are attentive enough. It only takes a little time to realize how they all intertwine into the story. In Son, they all come together in a beautiful story, even with a bit of Gabriel's background, his mother. It's a new eventful story that makes your heart ache for Claire. Finally towards the end of the book, all the main characters come together in a beautiful story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The way that these characters have evolved into the ending of this book is heart warming for some, and others you are waiting to see if there is a happy ending for them after all. I absolutely loved this book just as much as the other ones! I recommend reading them all, otherwise you are missing out. (:

I couldn't have asked for a better ending, let alone book!

Kudos, Lowry. I love it!
