Steamborne

Excellent book, so good I read it in 2 days. Hope it turns out to be a series.

Great Start to Series

This is the first book in a new series. The book seems to be written for middle schoolers, but is a book that everyone can enjoy. While this can be read as a standalone, it is open ended for the storyline to continue in Steamforged (Book #2).

This book has a steampunk setting with really really big bugs. Steampunk is a departure from the author's previous books, but he does a good job with it. The setting and characters he has created are richly described. And I quickly got caught up in the lives of his main characters and their struggles.

The story revolves around Jacob who is a tinkers apprentice, his friend Alice, Charles the tinker, and Samuel a Knight protecting the city of Ancora where they live. Giant bugs attack the Lowland part of the city and they are forced to take refuge in the Highlands where the "privileged" live.

Join in the adventure as they discover that bug attack is not a natural occurrence and not all is as it seems. I really enjoyed this new world and can't wait to read the next book to continue their story.

Starts a bit formulaic and evolves into a fun adventure. Take it with a light heart and you will enjoy the story and the settings.
