Book 8, Daggers & Steele
Alex P. Berg

Werewolves. Vampires. Zombies. Detective Jake Daggers believes in them all. But when an aristocrat disappears from her home amid a tide of supernatural whispers, Daggers suspects money is more likely to blame.
Until he realizes the woman vanished without a trace. Until his skin prickles with inexplicable fear. Until he spots the ghostly trace in the fog for himself.
Now Daggers and his partner Steele are stuck at the woman’s palatial estate, surrounded by people they can’t trust, and Daggers is about to take the ride of his life, a mystical journey into a place between worlds. For Daggers to take his life back, he’ll have to rip it free. He’ll have to STEELE LIFE.
I like this series but this one leaves me hanging.
Berg manages to keep his principals in characters, but the complexities of the plot seem muddy in comparison. The initial question is resolved, but the messy context remains clouded. Too many consequences are sketched rather than portrayed. The closure is reasoned, but far from complete.
A fair addition to the run, but not his best.
I'll keep an eye out for the next one.
