The California condor is one of the rarest birds in the world. It is the largest land bird in North America. Its wingspan can reach 9 1/2 feet and it can weigh up to 25 pounds.
The California condor is also a very endangered species that needs our help to survive. Tireless efforts by many organizations and hundreds of individuals and volunteers have resulted in saving these birds from the brink of extinction by bringing their number from 22 birds in 1982 to currently over 400.
This ebook is intended for elementary school children and would be useful to anyone looking for more information about the California condor. It is based in part on the educational section of our ebook “Mysteries of the Grand Canyon.”
