Sunrise Ridge, Book 3, Redemption Mountain Historical Western Romance series.
“The author has a talent for bringing the historical west to life, realistically and vividly, and doesn’t shy away from some of the harder aspects of frontier life, even though it’s fiction. Recommended to readers who like sweeping western historical romances that are grounded with memorable, likeable characters and a strong sense of place.”
Noah Brandt is a successful blacksmith and businessman in Splendor, Montana, with few ties to his past as an ex-Union Army major and sharpshooter. Quiet and hardworking, his biggest challenge is controlling his strong desire for a woman he believes is beyond his reach.
Abigail Tolbert is tired of being under her father’s thumb while at the same time, being pushed away by the one man she desires. Determined to build a new life outside the control of her wealthy father, she finds work and sets out to shape a life on her own terms.
Noah has made too many mistakes with Abby to have any hope of getting her back. Even with the changes in her life, including the distance she’s built with her father, he can’t keep himself from believing he’ll never be good enough to claim her.
Unexpected dangers, including a twist of fate for Abby, change both their lives, making the tentative steps they’ve taken to build a relationship a distant hope. As Noah battles his past as well as the threats to Abby, she fights for a future with the only man she will ever love.
Abby rounded on him, arms crossed, angry eyes flashing up at him. “What do you think you were doing in there? Do you have so little respect for me you think you can touch me like that at the supper table with others all around us?” She drew in a deep breath, letting it out slowly as her heart continued to beat almost painfully in her chest.
Noah’s concern turned to discomfort at the agony he saw on her face. “I’m sorry. I’d never do anything to cause you embarrassment or pain.”
“Then what was that about?”
He looked toward the western mountains, noting the sun touching the tops of the highest peaks, and took a deep breath. Shoving his hands in his pockets so he wouldn’t do what he wanted and reach out to touch her, Noah took a step backward.
“Do you remember when you told me you no longer had feelings for me?” His voice was rough as he worked to swallow the lump in the back of his throat.
She let her arms drop, clasping her hands in front of her, feeling regret at how he’d interpreted her words.
Noah had fought his attraction to her for too long. He needed to be honest, let her know how he felt, and discover if she still had any feelings for him at all.
“I need to know the truth, Abby. Do you feel anything for me?”
Shirleen Davies has become one of my favorite authors. Her books are old fashioned western romances and each one is an amazing adventure. She is so passionate and has such a sweet soul. I loved this one and enjoyed my journey that it took me on. Noah and Abby is a delightful couple, who fight for the love and passion they share. The obstacles in their way are hard, from different back grounds and not everyone wants them to be together. Will they over come it all and live happily ever after. Read the book and find out. The detailing is stunning and made me feel like I was right there. It is written beautifully and an absolute joy to read. I hated to see it end and as always I want more. I give it my highest recommendation; it is a wonderful read, as are all of Shirleen's books. You will become hooked on her too
Loved the story
Shirleen Davies has quickly become one of my favorite romance writers. Her books are a joy to read, and she really does the historical fiction and romance genre justice. I can't say I read western novels very often, but Davies has me really enjoying what stories set in the time period have to offer! I also loved Noah and Abigail in Sunrise Ridge--what Davies does really well in her books is bringing the characters to life. I felt that both had a lot of backstory (making them three-dimensional), their own struggles, etc. It was definitely a very well-rounded and well-written story, and this was a great experience reading this book!
In Shirley Davies’s third installment in her ‘Redemption Mountain Series’ just might be my favorite of the lot. “Sunrise Ridge” brings the local blacksmith, Noah Brandt, to the fore. We saw him in the previous novels as a background character – and intriguing one, now we learn his story.
Though fiction, Davies’s has a way of creating a realistic landscape speckled with moments that reflect honest emotion and the conflict that can arise in day to day life, as well as the more complicated situations that make for a great novel.
Noah has always had a thing for Abigail Tolbert, daughter of a well to do local cattle family, feelings that Abigail has long returned. When Noah fails to take action or make his own affections known, Abigail takes matters into her own hands when they meet at a wedding. Unfortunately, her father sees the event and considering the time – promptly intervenes and sends Abigail far away to protect her. This sets up a hard beginning to the kind of romance that will charm you.
