Practical Marketing to Improve your Self-Publishing Journey
Following up her Super Simple Quick Start Guide to Self-Publishing, E.J. Stevens has managed to yet again to rise above the many guides to book marketing and provide straight forward, blunt, factual, and relevant information that will appeal to any self-publisher.
E.J. Stevens clearly states her authority on the subject and with a long list of books in her catalog, it's obvious she speaks from experience. Being a best selling and award winning author proves that she has found tips and tricks that can help all authors. Despite having been self-published for three years, I found myself taking notes, discovering that while we did many of the same techniques, she had found far more efficient ways of executing them.
The downside to self-publishing is that you undertake all the marketing. In a sea of possibilities, it is easy to be swept up in the void and throw money away as you try to gain traction with your books. E.J. dispenses wisdom by going through the tactics she has used to build her audience, gain exposure, and work her way toward the best selling charts. She includes concepts such as building the mailing list (which I've already undertaken and seeing great results) as well as building your fan following as well as the legalities of each. At no point does she claim to have the solution to every author's problem, nor does she fall back on tired suggestions of "hard work and dedication" instead relying on statistics, sales numbers, and return on investment to guide her advice.
This book is the perfect addition to any self publisher, new or seasoned. Even having experience, I found there were entire sections of the book that I had yet to consider. I also found very quickly that E.J. Stevens prides herself on efficiency. What would take me days, she has turned into an afternoon of marketing work. I already can see my process happening faster which allows me more time to sit down and work on my novels. I can not recommend this book enough.
