A Must-Read For Anyone Into R&R!
I confess, I started out as a Runaways fan. When they disbanded, I was on a frantic search to replace them. Blonde didn't quite do it and certainly not the Go Gos (not to bash either group-- they both made some great music.). I discovered Girlschool when Hit and Run came out. There was one copy at my music store. I took it home and fell in love instantly with the group. They were every bit as good as the Runaways and realized that their music actually had a little more substance. I was amazed with Kelly from the beginning and certainly as well as the rest of the band! My biggest disappointment was that there was very little of them covered in the American press. I knew practically nothing about the band. I continued to buy each album, but still knew nothing about the girls, personally. This book finally sheds light on how the band was formed and up to Kelly leaving, then rejoining years later. It's told, for the most part, from a humorous perspective, but hits on some serious and sad issues as well. Now, I wish more than anything I could have met her just once. She was talented in so many ways and never got near the recognition she deserved. This goes for the rest of the band as well!! I highly recommend this book. I read it twice back to back. "Cheers you lot!"
