Tempted by a Rogue Prince (Eternal Mates Romance Series Book 3)
An elf prince on the verge of losing himself to the darkness, Vail is maddened by the forty-two centuries he was under the control of a witch and forced to war with his brother. Now, he roams Hell seeking an escape from his terrible past and the heads of all who bear magic. When demons of the Fifth Realm capture him, he sees a chance to end his existence, but when he wakes in a cell to a beautiful female, he finds not death but his only shot at salvation—his true fated mate.
Captured by the enemy of the Third Realm when the war ended, Rosalind has spent months in the cells of the Fifth Realm with her magic bound, forced to heal the new king’s demon warriors, and haunted by the lives she has taken. When she’s brought to heal an unconscious man, she discovers her only hope of escape has come in the form of her worst nightmare and the first part of a prediction that might spell her doom—a devastatingly handsome and dangerous dark elf prince.
Unwilling to fall under the control of anyone ever again, Vail must escape before the Fifth King can use him as a pawn in a deadly game of revenge, but he cannot leave without Rosalind, the woman who looks at him with dark desire in her stunning eyes and awakens a fierce hunger in his heart. A witch who drives him mad with need even as the darkness within whispers she will enslave him too.
Can Rosalind escape her fate as they embark on a journey fraught with danger and resist the temptation of her rogue elf prince? And can Vail overcome the memories that madden him in order to seize his chance for salvation and the heart of his fated female forever?

Intense, heart-warming and heart-breaking all in one.
Intense, heart-warming and heart-breaking all in one. This book is so difficult to review while avoiding spoilers. Therefore, I'll say that you should definitely start at the beginning with the first book. This book can be read as a standalone, but then you'll miss the build-up to the events of this one, and that would be a shame.
Am I horrible for saying that I loved seeing Vail so broken? I knew his healing wouldn't come quickly or easily, but I really felt for him throughout this one. The story started out with his capture by the King of the Fifth Realm. And fate threw him together with the one person who was both a curse and his salvation, the witch Rosalind. The majority of this story dealt with Vail's past and current trauma, courtesy of a dark witch. His deep hatred and lust for killing all witches extended to Rosalind, even after an accidental bond. The back and forth between lucidity and madness made him such an interesting character, and it made me root even harder for his redemption. In terms of romance, he seemed like a boy trapped in a man's body. He had a lot to learn, but his struggle to trust her and relinquish some control made him so endearing.
In the second book, Rosalind seemed so timid and skittish, so I was pleasantly surprised with her toughness here. She was a nice blend of nurturing and fighting spirit. I thought she handled Vail's "mood swings" rather well. She was caring and compassionate when it was called for, but she wasn't a doormat just because of the underlying attraction. She stood up to him and forced him to communicate when it really mattered. I loved her vulnerability stemming from her inability to cope with the events that took place in the second book. Despite having her own issues, she put them aside for Vail.
As usual, the author did a fantastic job with details - world building, descriptions, sights, smells, you name it. Slipping back into familiar territory always comes easily, no matter how much time has passed between books. The pacing wasn't too fast or too slow. I thought it was perfect, and they spent enough time together - from being captured and tortured to running for their lives - that I believed the gradual development of romance between them. And it wasn't just a by-product of their bond. Those two were put through the wringer in terms of dealing with their demons. The author also doesn't gloss over fight scenes that begin and end on one page. I love the descriptions of battle scenes, Felicity Heaton style. And I'm ever so grateful to her for feeding my black armor fetish. Loren or Vail in full gear is a thing of hotness!
**Complimentary eARC from the author for the purpose of an honest review.**
Tempted by a Rogue Prince
This review is from: Tempted by a Rogue Prince (Eternal Mates Paranormal Romance Series Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
Held together only by a strong sense of survival and the distant light of his brother's love, Vail battles between sanity and madness. At times I get the feeling he finds some escape through the madness as his reality of the last several thousand years has been so horrific. This deep abyss of madness was caused by a witch who had not only enslaved vail, but had him turn violently against his own kind and those he loved.
Felicity Heaton's heart breaking and mesmerizing story of Vail, the third in the Eternal Mates Series has been long awaited by many fans, including myself. The hypnotic world she has built up in this series (also a part of the Vampire Erotic Series realm), is further expanded to include the fifth realm. The king of this world is at war with Loren (elf Prince and Vail's brother) and Thorn (DemonKing), from the first two books in the series. The new king of the 5th realm seeks to use Vail against his brother and holds him hostage in his dungeon. Here Vail continues to vacillate between madness and sanity, leaving most of the other inhabitants and prisoners wanting to keep their distance.
Rosalind is a witch who we were introduced to in the previous books and is captured in Book 2. Also a prisoner of the 5th realm Rosalind is forced to use her powers as a healer for the king's warriors. She is terribly abused and tortured by her captors.
Felicity's clever plot has Rosalind sent in to heal Vail, whose very existence holds a major hatred of witches. How confusing for a mad elf Prince who finds himself recognizing the pretty witch as his "Kiera", his fated mate (I love that word).
I really love Rosalind, she has held onto her sanity and strong sense of self, as well as a bit of sassiness, despite her dire situation.
Her major fear is a prophesy that predicts she will die shortly after meeting an Elven Prince. She is an admirable and likable heroine who in book two played a major role in helping Loren and Thorne remove barriers preventing transportation in and out of the realms.
Vail and Rosalind must escape and embark on a journey that will prove to be both mentally and physically challenging.
Much of the story is told through Vail's inner dialogue as we ride his roller coaster of sanity to madness. Still a strong warrior finding a need to protect Rosalind, he has to mend his mind and soul, fight the urge to not harm her when the madness takes over, and allow her "in".
At times his bouts between clarity and madness are exasperating but I truly believe that is the effect the author was aiming for. It makes his road to healing and growing ability to love Rosalind and mend his fences with his brother, even sweeter.
This story is definitely a bit darker than the first two, but I figured that would be the case knowing Vail's past. He has been an intriguing character since the first book and brings out the let's heal this bad tortured soul in all us heroines.
I did enjoy the interaction of the many main and secondary characters in the first two books. In Rogue Prince, Vail and Rosalind make up the majority of the book. Their love and the romance takes a bit longer to come to fruition as there is so much for them to overcome, and it is all worth the build up.
So by healing Vail, of course Rosalind is also heals herself. Along with Rosalind I believe the readers also grow to love Vail and I swooned a bit every time he calls her his "Wild Rose".
As the many characters in this series have stories and timelines that interconnect and are introduced in a definite order, I highly recommend reading the books in order.
Another awesome, amazing book by Felicity Heaton that combines all the wonderful, heartbreaking, passionate, romantic, exciting, suspenseful elements that will hypnotize and capture us once again.
Love all the books in this series and this one is no exception. Felicity truly knows how to build a plot and the love scenes are super sexy!
