Susuk refers to the ancient art of inserting foreign objects (e.g. gold needle) under the skin for beauty or other purposes. It has its roots in the Malayan culture and is commonly practised in Southeast Asia. It is believed that the susuk charm must be removed before death, otherwise the person will die a slow, painful death.
