Publisher Description

A new Cold War threatens the galaxy, in this fast-paced and wisecracking thriller of spies and subterfuge.

Simon Kovalic, top intelligence operative for the Commonwealth of Independent Systems, is on the frontline of the burgeoning Cold War with the aggressive Illyrican Empire. He barely escapes his latest mission with a broken arm, and vital intel which points to the Empire cozying up to the Bayern Corporation: a planet-sized bank. There’s no time to waste, but with Kovalic out of action, his undercover team is handed over to his ex-wife, Lt Commander Natalie Taylor. When Kovalic’s boss is tipped off that the Imperium are ready and waiting, it’s up to the wounded spy to rescue his team and complete the mission before they’re all caught and executed.

Make “The Bayern Agenda” your next binge

As a book critic, I review upwards of forty fiction titles a year, and although I don’t get to write about genre fiction, Dan Moren’s “The Bayern Agenda” made me wish I could. While the book, a heist/kidnapping thriller with spaceships and wormholes, can be read in a day, Moren has imagined a universe you want to inhabit for much longer. [And you can because there is a prequel of sorts and there will be at least one sequel.]

His world-building is clearly thought out and presented, but the real heroes—and villains—here are his characters, who have deep backstories (again you can tell Moren has put in the hard work to know what motivates and what shaped these folks) and distinct personalities.

Moren is a smart, fluid, very funny writer. He also deploys a rich vocabulary that almost without exception (I’m looking at you eidetic in the last paragraph) benefits readers by showing them a much more vivid picture than could a writer always reaching into the same bag of tricks.

If you like wit and adventure and space and want to escape from the real world for a while (and honestly if you don’t, I feel sorry for you!), this is a stellar option.

Gripping spy thriller!

This is an incredibly gripping spy thriller that I could not put down. It is the only piece of media that has ever made me miss my stop in transportation.

I can not recommend this book highly enough: the writing is fluid and descriptive, the pace is well timed, and the characters are nuanced. I can’t wait for the next one!
