The Beautiful Ashes
Book 1, A Broken Destiny Novel - A Paranormal Romance Novel
This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.
In a world of shadows, anything is possible. Except escaping your fate.
Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse—her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who's bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.
Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn't mean he can change his fate…no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn't: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in between….

Avid Frost Fan, but a bit disappointed
I have been an avid reader of Frost’s work since 2011, and have read every book/sorry she has written and consider her to be one of my favorite authors. That being said, I can not recommend this series as I do her other books. This is more a review of the series in general, and not specifically the final book. This series begins with the interesting idea of winding biblical tales into a fantastical world, mixed with steamy romance, danger, and a bit of fate. The premise is interesting enough, but fails to capture and hold attention. The plot becomes repetitive throughout the books, searching for hallowed weapons, fighting demons, a flaw in the relationship, finding the weapons and saving humans from demon control. It becomes too predictable, and less of a page turner. Along the lines of a repetitive nature, regular Frost readers will notice patterns in more of her erotic scenes. Some of the romantic, erotic scenes feel they have been copy/pasted from other books of hers, even using similar and same sentences/phrases, and removes any passion and personal connection between the characters. I will give credit to the middle/beginning of the end (up until the mirror transport) where Frost differs from her traditional plot structure, and finally succeeds to inthrall and invest me into Ivy’s doomed future. However, my biggest problem is the ending. It comes off as predictable, abrupt, and leaving a slew of loose ends in its wake. With such tremendous lead up for the series, I wish the ending felt like much more than just another demon battle where Ivy is rescued by Adrian or Zach (even indirectly.)
I have high hopes for Frost’s new series featuring Ian from the Night Huntress series, and hope this series is a one-off in my dislike for her more recent work Post Bones and Cat. But only time will tell.
Grrrrr!! I don't WANNA wait for the next one! Gimmie gimmie!! I love this author so much I would buy her books without any idea of the storyline because I know I would never be disappointed.
As great as promised
I preordered this book based on the recommendation of Kate Daniels creators, Ilona Andrews. It was all that was promised and more. The world building was done quickly and smoothly so you felt you were there almost as soon as the book started. Each character was well defined but left with much growth. Ms. Frost also did not fail to keep the reader involved with humor, suspense, murder, loss, and of course, romance. A definite urban fantasy with romance as a side. Angels, demons, humans, and other creatures of the supernatural, mythical world are found here. Cannot wait for the next challenge that Ivy has been given!
