With rare immediacy, Tyson (Blood Done Sign My Name) revisits the 1955 lynching of Emmett Till in Mississippi and the acquittal of those responsible in a gripping account of the cultural milieu of a racist environment. The work is informed by the retrospective of Carolyn Bryant (the woman whose short interaction with Till set the ensuing developments in motion), supported by the recollections of many who witnessed, participated in, testified to, and reported about the crime at the time, and strengthened by Tyson's diligent research through contemporaneous accounts and archival materials as well as recent scholarship. Painful and Necessary
Whites must stop denying our past and our history. This is a painful, well researched and well written account of not only the horrific murder of 14 year old Emmett “Bobo” Till, but the birth of the civil rights movement and the egregious treatment of blacks by whites since the Dawn of America. A must read. For every single white person in America. We still have so far to go.

Well written piece of literature . It’s very sad this woman waited until she’s about to die to confess the truth . Till was and will continue to be cemented in the minds of many. I highly recommend this book
Knowing the whole story
In this age of a resurgence of white supremacy, this beautifully written and incredibly sourced book is a must read for all baby boomers and their children. I never knew the details of this landmark event and how it galvanized the civil rights movement. I feel our country has gone backward and we cannot allow that to happen.
