FBI Special agent Brad Raines is facing his toughest case yet. A Denver serial killer has killed four beautiful young women, leaving a bridal veil at each crime scene, and he's picking up his pace. Unable to crack the case, Raines appeals for help from a most unusual source: residents of the Center for Wellness and Intelligence, a private psychiatric institution for mentally ill individuals whose are extraordinarily gifted.

It's there that he meets Paradise, a young woman who witnessed her father murder her family and barely escaped his hand. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, Paradise may also have an extrasensory gift: the ability to experience the final moments of a person's life when she touches the dead body.

In a desperate attempt to find the killer, Raines enlists Paradise's help. In an effort to win her trust, he befriends this strange young woman and begins to see in her qualities that most 'sane people' sorely lack. Gradually, he starts to question whether sanity resides outside the hospital walls...or inside.

As the Bride Collector picks up the pace-and volume-of his gruesome crucifixions, the case becomes even more personal to Raines when his friend and colleague, a beautiful young forensic psychologist, becomes the Bride Collector's next target.

The FBI believes that the killer plans to murder seven women. Can Paradise help before it's too late?

From Publishers Weekly

Feb 01, 2010 – Readers who relish being trapped in a character's mind, in particular the mind of an insane serial killer, should enjoy this overlong thriller by bestseller Dekker (Boneman's Daughters). Those not so keen on such musings, even within the mind of a good guy like FBI special agent Brad Raines, who spends pages contemplating the nature of love and grief, will be less enthralled. The Denver killer, Quinton Gauld, driven by some mumbo jumbo about beautiful women being the brides of Christ and his giving them to God, likes to super-glue his victims to the wall, then drain their blood into buckets. The most interesting characters are the institutionalized crazy people whose aid Raines enlists, a diverse and funny group. Few surprises and a stock serial killer, not to mention too much internal dialogue, add up to a routine read. 5-city author tour.

Bride collector

I couldn't put this book down. In fact, I took it everywhere with me till I completed it. My first Ted Dekker book but it won't be my last!

The Bride Collector

Good Book but dreadful ending. The hero does not save the day. He is tied up to a pole and crying like a little girl. Some guy comes from thin air to save the day. Read it but skip the last two chapters if you don't want to throw up reading about this little scared punk. The hero is disgusting.

You'll lose sleep for sure

If you want a story that keeps you awake and makes you think, the bride collector is guaranteed to crock your world. But be prepared to look past the obvious. This book is not written for stupid people. The ending, though unconventional, fits perfectly. Works on so many levels. The protagonist is the one who needs to be rescued, he's not the rescuer. If you like your fiction boring or very basic, don't read Dekker. If you like a real mind bender, he's your guy.
