Book 1, A Sleeping Beauty Novel
A. N. Roquelaure & Anne Rice
This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.
The first of the Classic Erotic Trilogy of Sleeping Beauty "Something very special . . . at once so light and yet so haunting." —The Advocate In the traditional folktale of "Sleeping Beauty," the spell cast upon the lovely young princess and everyone in her castle can only be broken by the kiss of a Prince. It is an ancient story, one that originally emerged from and still deeply disturbs the mind's unconscious. Now Anne Rice's retelling of the Beauty story probes the unspoken implications of this lush, suggestive tale by exploring its undeniable connection to sexual desire. Here the Prince awakens Beauty, not with a kiss, but with sexual initiation. His reward for ending the hundred years of enchantment is Beauty's complete and total enslavement to him . . . as Anne Rice explores the world of erotic yearning and fantasy in a classic that becomes, with her skillful pen, a compelling experience. "Articulate, baroque, and fashionably pornographic." —Playboy
Short, unsatisfying, and overpriced
I'm no stranger to erotic fiction - I even write the stuff on occasion - so my objections to this book are not because I was grossed out by the extremely graphic sex or the veritable torture porn masquerading as normal sexual activity. I was even willing to overlook the fact that the story begins with the rape of a minor and just gets more and more bizarre after that. My objections are because this book had no plot or character development. There seemed to be some kind of plot brewing to a slow simmer over the course of the novel, but then at the end the main character makes a random decision that pushes her in another direction entirely. There is no romance development - or even friendship. There is no explanation given for why the horrible events that befall Beauty are occurring. I have a sneaking suspicion that this "trilogy" was originally intended to be one long novel but was separated to squeeze extra money out of the unwitting audience. Don't waste $13 on this book. It was short and extremely unsatisfying.
This book has captured my attention from the very first page. It seems a harsh life for a beautiful princess but in a strange erotic way, there is a strong sense of pleasure to be derived from punishments. I am hooked on the series and will be reading frantically to find out the trials and tribulations of Princess Beauty! I am rooting for Beauty to overcome all of it and have all the wisdom learned as she goes back to claim her title of "Princess".
Thank you for the wonderful stories of this series, Ms Anne Rice!
NOT worth it.
I hated even putting one star on this book. This is beyond degrading. I love reading D/s books but this is not what it cracked up to be.
