“Adele Ashworth…is certain to become one of Romance’s most beloved writers.”

—Lisa Kleypas

The first of three dashing, daring, and utterly unforgettable dukes takes the stage in The Duke’s Captive—book one in an enthralling new historical romance series from USA Today bestseller and Rita Award winner Adele Ashworth.  An author whose novels have been called, “exquisitely written and brimming with emotion” by the inimitable Julia Quinn, Adele Ashworth enchants again with the breathtaking story of a duke’s revenge undone by the power of passionate love.

Trigger Warning

Overall, it wasn’t bad, but MAN are there weird, uncomfortable sexual themes here. Rape is a major element of the story - the guy was drugged and doesn’t remember/ couldn’t have consented to sex, and his revenge includes the threats of violence and rape. I GET that a lot of regency romances paddle around in murky waters because of the gender politics of the time, but this one just made me feel icky. Overall well-written - the plot moves along quickly and the heroine is sufficiently plucky. The sex scenes were hot, but their context was troubling. Basically, you should know what you’re getting into.

I liked it

I actually didn't think the dialogue was cheesy at all! It was a good book, with mature characters and I couldn't put it down.

Started out very promising...but then it just dragged on and on. The dialogue was so cheesy at times I cringed. The erotic scenes were okay, but would have been better if the characters were more interesting and better developed. I soon stopped caring about the story and just read to get it over with because I don't like leaving books half-read and because I maintained hope that the story would be salvaged in some way. I'm not picky with my romance novels, so I was surprised at my utter disappointment with this one. Fortunately, it is a very forgettable novel and I'll be over it as soon as I hit the send button. 
