The Endless Sky

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

In Boston he is known as Chase Remington, a bitter outsider, heir to a socially prominent dynasty that hides secrets more shocking than his own bastardy and half-breed blood. To fulfill the last wish of his mother, he returns to the High Plains, becoming the White Wolf, a fierce Cheyenne raider, protecting his father’s people from the whites who would destroy them.

Stephanie Summerfield is a Boston heiress who has loved Chase since childhood. Her engagement to him sends shock waves through society, especially when he vanishes mysteriously after his mother’s death. Alone, her reputation in shambles, she weds a mercenary Baltimore cavalry officer and attempts to rebuild her life in the far West…until she is kidnapped by the infamous White Wolf.

In the Valley of the Greasy Grass, Chase and Stephanie learn what the Powers have decreed. They are destined to be lovers…if they can survive the vengeance of her brutal husband, the twisted hate of his uncle, and the attacking Seventh Cavalry led by the Long Hair, Custer. See the Battle of the Little Big Horn through the eyes of the Indians who were the ultimate victims.

“Plot developments reveal many aspects of frontier life from an unsparingly honest perspective. A most intriguing twist is an account of Little Bighorn told from Native American perspective. Through the intensity of her writing and her thorough research, Henke makes the most of the genre.”
Publishers Weekly

“Few authors write Indian romances and captive/captor novels like Shirl Henke…adventurous, sensuous, emotionally intense and highly entertaining. She is a true shining star of the genre.”
–Kathe Robin, Romantic Times

“One of my favorites…the main characters are both believable and likeable, the sex scenes are torrid and the action keeps you turning the pages.”
–Good Stuff, Amazon UK

“Shirl Henke ranks in the top ten American authors…Endless Sky’s characters come alive, caught in a breathless spell of intrigue, deceit and betrayal. The reader turns the pages, unable to look away as the tale unravels like a thick ball of yarn. Shirl Henke’s name on the cover is a guarantee of excellence.”
–Kathee Card,

“A vivid style…a great book if you want an easy read to be intelligently written.”
–Mermaid, Amazon

From Publishers Weekly

Dec 29, 1997 – By combining a broad scope with close attention to detail, the author of Bride of Fortune manages to play some fresh notes among the overly familiar themes of the Indian historical romance subgenre. It's the 1870s, and Chase Remington is the requisite half-breed, torn between his passion for Stephanie (Stevie) Summerfield and his fierce attachment to his Native American roots. Early chapters explore the wealthy world of their Boston families, before Chase obeys his mother's dying wish and returns West to fight for his people. After Stevie marries an officer who turns out to be a brute, a showdown with Chase becomes inevitable. Plot developments reveal many aspects of frontier life from an unsparingly honest perspective, without losing track of the romance. The most interesting twist here is an account of Little Bighorn, told from a Native American perspective. Through the intensity of her writing and her thorough research, Henke makes the most of a well-worked, narrowly defined genre.

Customer Reviews

This story is one of the most beautiful romance I have read so far! The storyline is rich in emotions and twist of the drama would trap your attention. I love the reference of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse.
