I am 49 years old and though I’ve always exercised and ate a healthy diet, it wasn’t enough. I had thought that at my age there was no way I would be able to lose the fat tire around my middle. I made every excuse there was to avoid working hard for what I really wanted. I don’t remember exactly what it was I read in the book but something in Julia’s words clicked with me that made me want to commit to working hard and eating right to get the body I’ve always wanted. This revelation and new lifestyle began with my new mantra “no excuses,” whether it was skipping workouts or indulging in foods I needed to stay away from, the simple words “no excuses” was helpful in getting me one step closer to the person I had always wanted to be.
I’m proud to say that today I finished the 12 week program with fantastic results! I’m 5’7” and I’ve lost close to 12 lbs. I have lost 3.75” off my waist, 2.50” on my “fat belly” (that spot just below the belly button,) 2.25” off my hips and just over an 1” on both thighs. It was the fat I wanted to rid and turn in to healthy muscle tissue to become strong and lean, not skinny. I expect as I continue with the exercises in this program (I will be starting over but with the current heavier weights I’m now lifting) and the healthier eating habits that I will gain more muscle mass and possibly gain weight but I’m okay with that.
I cannot emphasize enough how awesome this program is! Make no mistake it is tough, especially if you aren’t used to doing high intensity training (HIT) or lifting weights, but if you stick with it the results are fantastic and proof that it does work. The workouts can be done at home and are relatively short. As I said in the beginning “if it were easy everyone would do it.” It’s not a miracle program or a quick easy route but you will be very happy with yourself as you continue to see results.
