—Mark Hyman, M.D., author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Blood Sugar Solution

While conventional medicine focuses on treating symptoms with prescription drugs, Dr. Mitchell Gaynor’s pathbreaking plan goes straight to the most fundamental level: our DNA. We cannot alter the genes we are born with, but we can change how they are expressed over the course of our lives through targeted foods and supplements. The Gene Therapy Plan presents clear and evidence-based approaches to diet, including juices, recipes, and menus. Empowering and informative, with inspiring stories from Dr. Gaynor’s decades of clinical practice, this forward-looking book by the author of Nurture Nature, Nurture Health puts our genetic destiny back into our own hands.

From Publishers Weekly

Feb 09, 2015 – After losing his mother to breast cancer, physician Gaynor (Nurture Nature, Nurture Health) dedicated his life to researching oncology and ecogenetics. The culmination of his work is this worthwhile guide to harnessing the power hidden in food to subvert a genetic predisposition for disease." In the first chapter, Gaynor lays out healthy eating's general principles, which rest on the Rule of One Thirds": that you consumer roughly one-third of your calories from... fats, carbs, and proteins." The following chapters each explore one of the major health concerns shared by Americans: obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and aging. Gaynor's ideas about nutrition vary from being as basic as an apple a day" to being as complex as the substitution of coconut oil for butter and sugar. Additional guidance comes in the book's second part via a questionnaire, meal plans, and recipes. One issue unaccounted for is finance: it's not explained how low-income earners are to afford the often pricey healthy eating options given here. Nonetheless, Gaynor's informative tome is worth reading if for no other reason than its potential to make you in singer Thom Yorke's words fitter healthier happier more productive."

Palatable for everyone

The truth is that the stuff we are made of from the inside reflects who are on the outside. If we don’t feel good, don’t feel beautiful, don’t feel energetic, don’t feel motivated … then it shows, despite our best attempts to put our best foot forward. From here, we proceed to do our best to cope and make due with our circumstances, but the underlying bases for our choices remain the same. What this book dutifully does is to breakdown complex processes without needing us to have an advance degree in science. Additionally, it shares anecdotal evidence that we can relate to and appreciate, and finally fills our plate with recipes to nourish our bellies, and feed our souls by changing the way we understand the benefits of food medicine. It is a must read for anyone who wants to change the course of their health and consequently their life.
