The Heat of the Moment
Book 3, Bad Boys of Baseball - A Boys of Summer Novel
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
The Bad Boys of Baseball are back! In Katie Rose’s sweet, sparkling novel, the newest New Jersey Sonic falls for the woman who’s trying desperately to save his career.
Physical therapist Jessica Hart has learned her lesson: Never date professional athletes. She’s been down that road, and barely recovered after the relationship crashed and burned. Then Jessica meets Gavin King. An All-Star slugger with chiseled good looks, Gavin was traded to the Sonics because he hurt his knee sliding into second, and now his future is in her hands. Gavin’s no bad boy—but he’s tempting enough to make Jessica think twice about all her rules.
Gavin is trying to find a comfortable routine. If he wants his old life back, he must take it easy, stay out of the limelight, and keep his distance from gorgeous redheaded physical therapists. The thing is, Gavin isn’t the kind of guy to sit on his ass and let other people pull his weight. And when he sees something he wants, he can’t help but fight for it, even if it means risking everything, even if it only lasts a single moment: like one kiss from Jessica.

Turn up the heat
This book is the 3rd in The Boys of Summer series. Can be read as a standalone novel, but for reader's benefit, I always recommend the whole series be read in order.
Jessica Hart and Gavin King meet when he is traded to the New Jersey Sonics team she works for as a physical therapist. The attraction between them is instant. Jessica is gun shy since she has already dated a baseball player who treated her poorly.
Gavin takes an immediate interest in Jessica. He is trying to adjust to being traded, moving to a new place, and getting to know and try to be part of the team. She just makes him feel at peace. Like he can learn to love New Jersey and make it home.
Jessica is happy to be friends with Gavin. They click really well and she does find him attractive. She just does not want to be hurt and sidelined like her last relationship did. When her ex comes to town, what is a girl to do?
Gavin wants to take her and their relationship to the next level. Can he overcome his own fears to help her past hers? They are great as friends. Is it worth it to risk what they have for what comes next?
This was an amazing story that gave me serious feels. They are both just running from their pasts and trying so hard. I was absolutely enthralled by the banter and the sexy times were good too.

Another great book in The Boys of Summer series / Bad Boys of Baseball series – no cliffhanger
This is the third book in The Boys of Summer series but you don’t have to have read the other books to enjoy this one; they all standalone.
Gavin King was a hitting star with the Dodgers but he injured his knee and they traded him to the much less desirable New Jersey Sonics.
Jessica Hart is a sports therapist for the Sonics and Gavin is assigned to work with her to restore his knee so he can begin playing again. Jessica doesn’t like or date baseball players.
Gavin has a girlfriend when he moves to New Jersey but she soon breaks up with him. There is an attraction between Gavin and Jessica but neither of them is interested in a relationship. Working together so closely creates sparks that eventually come to a head.
I enjoyed this book a lot; it was a nice summer read. The pace was good and the characters interesting. If you’ve read the first two books you will be happy to revisit those characters in this book but you won’t be missing anything vital if you haven’t read them.
The Boys of Summer is a good series and I look forward to reading more books from Katie Rose. Note: I was given an early copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my review. I see that the name of the series appears to have been changed to the Bad Boys of Baseball.
I have read the occasional book by Katie Rose and have enjoyed them. This book for me was only a 3.5-4 book but that may be because I am tired of sports books. I have read so many lately that I really think I need a break from them. That is NOT to say this was a bad book because it really wasn't. I thought the characters were well developed for this kind of book. Gavin plays baseball on a major league team. He is a star hitter but has injured his knee fairly severely and had to have surgery. His team decided to trade him to another team across the country. His original team was from California and his new team is in New Jersey. When he first arrives in New Jersey he is one unhappy camper. He needs physical therapy before he can play for the New Jersey team and the romance begins with Jessica who is his therapist.
From there, to me, it was a traditional sports romance. Enjoyable, but not a lot of drama. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC for an honest review!
