The Hot Shot
Book 4, Game On
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
First we were friends. Then we were roommates. Now I want more…
What can I say about Chess Copper? The woman is capable of bringing me to my knees. I know this about five minutes after getting naked for her.
No one is more surprised than me. The prickly photographer my team hired to shoot our annual charity calendar isn’t my usual type. She’s defense to my offense, a challenge at every turn. But when I’m with her, all the regrets and darkness goes away. She makes life fun.
I want to know Chess, be close to her. Which is a bad idea.
Chess is looking for a relationship. I’ve never given a woman more than one night. But when fate leaves Chess without a home, I step up and offer her mine. We’re roommates now. Friends without benefits. But it’s getting harder to keep our hands off each other. And the longer we live together the more I realize she’s becoming my everything.
Trick is… Now that I’ve made her believe I’m a bad bet, how do I convince her to give this player a true shot at forever?
Sports romance at its best!
Kristen Callihan is my favorite author in the entire romance genre, and her books seem to just keep getting better and better. Can't wait for this new book!!
5 GAME ON STARS
I am sucker for all sports tropes. There is something about watching a sexy athlete take all that dedication and devotion for a sport and place it on the woman he loves. And of all the sports tropes, football players just hit the mark, particularly the Game On series.
Part of what makes this story and series special is the characters, all of them. All of the new football players, seeing Dex and Rolando again, and even tiny glimpses of Drew and Gray is entertaining. These men provide humor for the serious moments and become the sounding board for the main characters. But these secondary characters are more than tools for the author to progress the plot or develop the characters of the story, she makes you love them, too!
The hero, Finn, is the quarterback of the team, and as all quarterbacks go, he is dedicated, loyal, supportive. QBs are sexy and smart and thrive on instinct, and this is Finn. He encapsulates all of these things. Plus he is a mixture of two of my favorite athletic characters, Drew and Gray, allowing him to be serious and humorous and always exuding charm. His sense of humor and his honestly is what readers will adore about him, but he also has some pain that has affected him, and readers’ hearts will break for him, resulting in our allegiance to his character and our desire to see him get his happy ending with Chester.
Readers will love Chess just as much as they love Finn. She is also fiercely protective of her friends and the people she loves. The damage from her past has made her partially closed off to relationships. She is, however, fiercely loyal to those who matter to her. One of the attributes I love most is her intelligence and authentic uniqueness. She is her own person and loves what she loves and is who she is without apology. Her fierceness and independence are phenomenal.
What will really make readers love this story is the relationship between Chess and Finn. They fight physical attraction to be friends, and with each moment together they grow closer and become more. Their connection is built on so much more than the physical connection they share. They give each other a break, peace from the world, a safe haven to retreat to. In addition to the emotional connection that is palpable, the sexual tension is also off the charts, and their chemistry is explosive, allowing their intimate moments to be filled with passion.
What makes a Kristen Callihan novel different from most is that she creates a real romance. There are hard times that will make readers’ hearts ache, joyous times that will have readers smiling, and an ending that is real. This makes the romance of the The Hot Shot that much more enjoyable. Kristen Callihan doesn’t gloss over the hard stuff, she doesn’t magically wave a wand and make it all go away. She tackles this challenging and often difficult and delicate topics with her characters, and gives them the HEA they deserve and an ending that is real, giving her stories a unique voice.
Kristen Callihan is one of my favorite writers, not only because she writes characters and stories I love, but because I am in awe of her talent as a writer. Each story of hers that I have read, I have been consumed by. Her words place me into this world to interact with these complex and developed characters, and I never want it to be over. She is absolutely an automatic one-click author, and The Hot Shot should be at the top your reading list today.

My favorite in the series!
You know when you read something that you instantly fall in love with, can’t put down and just know in your heart that it’s going to be a great book – well, The Hot Shot was that for me and SO MUCH MORE! This book is my definite FAVORITE of the series so far, and a definite Top Fave of 2017!
Kristen Callihan has crafted some amazing characters in the Game On series, and while the books can be read as standalones, I liked them together as a whole—getting to know each of the characters as the books progressed and wanting them to find their happily ever afters.
I pretty much enjoyed this book from the very moment I opened it—watching Chess Copper (aka Chester Copperpot from the Goonies – ah!) meet Finn Mannus for the very first time for the nude male calendar was pretty amazing LOL
Yes, Chess is the complete opposite of what Finn normally looks for in a woman he is attracted to and vice versa for her—but their banter and the comebacks—you can see that the pretty boy quarterback has met his match in this talented photographer.
Chess and Finn start off as friends though the underlying sexual chemistry is TO DIE FOR. When tragedy strikes and Chess loses her apartment, Finn is there to save the day and offers her to be his roommate. As Chess and Finn navigate this so-called friendship while being immensely attracted to each other, readers will smile, and laugh, and then cry when you learn more about these characters. This is honestly one of the best friends to more books I have read in a long time.
Kristen Callihan certainly packed this book with everything that readers love—the banter, the romance, the sexy times and let’s not even get into the heartbreaking emotional times…Tears were coming out of my eyes! I am a huge fan of Kristen Callihan and I am just IN LOVE with these characters…Finn and Chess are EVERYTHING and more and I can’t say enough other than to JUST READ THE BOOK! It’s addicting and delicious and PERFECT in every way!
P.S. This is the MOST PERFECT COVER for this book… you will know when you read the scene <3
Favorite Quotes *le sigh*
“I wouldn’t push you, and I meant it. But one day, Chess, you’re going to feel safe enough to let go. And I’m going to be there to catch you when you fall.”
“Finn, what am I going to do with you?” His smile is an easy glide, but his eyes hold mine a beat too long. “Keep me. I’m pretty sure I’m good for no one else.”
“I was made to kiss you, Chess.”
