When high school teacher Caelum Quirk and his wife, Maureen, a school nurse, move to Littleton, Colorado, they both get jobs at Columbine High School. In April 1999, while Caelum is away, Maureen finds herself in the library at Columbine, cowering in a cabinet and expecting to be killed. Miraculously, she survives, but at a cost: she is unable to recover from the trauma. When Caelum and Maureen flee to an illusion of safety on the Quirk family's Connecticut farm, they discover that the effects of chaos are not easily put right, and further tragedy ensues.
Wasn't his best
I have read all of Wally Lambs books and through them all the characters were well developed, the ending left you yearning for more. This book did neither. There were more characters in the book than I can count and most were unnecessary to the plot. This story could have been much better told if it was more focused and stuck to one tragedy occurring and how the main character, Caelum, dealt with it. Instead, this book touched on everything including the kitchen sink (9/11, Tragedy of school Shootings, Hurricane Katrina, etc.).
The Best Book Ever
This book was the absolute best book I have ever read in my life it was my first time reading a book by Wally lamb and now I look forward to many more. The book always had something going on wether it was in the background or front and center but it held my attention from page one all the way through to the very last page.
