Renowned classicist Bernard Knox observes in his superb introduction that although the violence of the Iliad is grim and relentless, it coexists with both images of civilized life and a poignant yearning for peace.
Legendary classic that's been around longer than the bible and still has a more enticing storyline.
The translation of the book is amazing, this is one of Homer's greatest novels. The book takes place during the ten-year long siege of Troy by Greek coalition cities, it also tells the battles and events during the final weeks of the siege.
The book although staged during the final weeks mentions the other events during the siege. I enjoyed the novel because it gives a great perspective of the Trojan War that makes the war seem real. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys Homer's works and Greek mythology.
Why are the Roman and Greeks gods both used in this book?
