New York Times bestseller

The life story of Chris Kyle, the American Sniper

Journalist Michael J. Mooney reveals the life story of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, the American Sniper, from his Texas childhood up through his death in February 2013.

A brutal warrior but a gentle father and husband, Kyle led the life of an American hero and legend. His heroism and reputation in the military service earned him the nickname "the devil" among insurgents and the nickname The Legend among his SEAL brethren, but his impact extended beyond that after he came home, through his work with fellow veterans.

Mooney also sheds light on the life of the suffering fellow veteran who killed Kyle and interviews those closest to the late SEAL. The Life and Legend of Chris Kyle is an honest portrayal of the life of a man whose memorial service brought thousands of people to Cowboys Stadium--the most celebrated war hero of our time.

From Publishers Weekly

Jul 08, 2013 – Chris Kyle was a war hero, author of a memoir (American Sniper) and a history of the U.S. (American Gun), and a veteran dedicated to helping others like him cope with PTSD. The most lethal sniper in American military history, Kyle had survived multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, yet he would ultimately meet his end just miles away from his home and family in Texas. On February 2, 2013, the 38-year-old retired Navy SEAL and father of two was shot and killed by a troubled vet whom he had taken to a shooting range to let off some steam. This hastily penned e-book tells Kyle's story, but like his life, it's far too brief. There are few details of Kyle's military service, and only fleeting glimpses into his childhood and upbringing. Mooney, a staff writer for D Magazine, had been interviewing Kyle for a long-read magazine article, which might explain the book's brevity. But other than the scenes from Kyle's funeral (which include a heart-wrenching eulogy by his wife, Taya), there's little here that Kyle hadn't already addressed in his own memoir. And there remains the question of what will happen to the perpetrator. He is in custody, that much is known. This is the ending that needs to be written. But it hasn't happened yet.

Customer Reviews

American sniper

We owe so much to our military and their families for making the unknowable sacrifices that benefit this great country and it's citizenry. Men like Chris Kyle, Adam Brown and countless others harness their courage, fears, sense of duty and love of their country and most of all the love for their brothers and sisters in arms to accomplish things that provide us all with the freedom to pursue our own dreams. This book is an excellent reminder of what our military teaches: that you can become more than you ever thought yourself capable of if you believe and persevere through adversity.

I pray that we will apply this principle in our lives and pursuits. That we will honor our military heroes and their sacrifices in pursuit of our own personal perfection and thus make ourselves worthy of the sacrifices that our heroes have made in our country's name.

Please reach out to those military men and women in any way you can. We can never repay the debt fully but we can at least make a small down payment.

God bless our Chris Kyle and his family and all of our military heroes.
