The Lost Codex

OPSIG Team Black

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

In this “brilliant” thriller from the USA Today–bestselling author, ancient biblical documents are at the center of a devastating terrorist threat (Jeffery Deaver).

In 930 CE, a revered group of scholars pens the first sanctioned Bible, planting the seed from which other major religions will grow. But in 1953, half the manuscript goes missing while being transported from Syria. Around the same time, in the foothills of the Dead Sea, an ancient scroll is discovered—and promptly stolen.

Six decades later, both parchments stand at the heart of a geopolitical battle between foreign governments and radical extremists, threatening the lives of millions. With the American homeland under siege, the president turns to a team of uniquely trained covert operatives including FBI profiler Karen Vail, Special Forces veteran Hector DeSantos, and FBI terrorism expert Aaron Uziel. Their mission: Find the stolen documents and capture—or kill—those responsible for unleashing a coordinated and unprecedented terrorist attack on US soil.

Set in DC, New York, Paris, England, and Israel, The Lost Codex has been hailed by Douglas Preston as “a masterwork of international suspense” and “an outstanding novel."

From Publishers Weekly

Sep 28, 2015 – Jacobson's entertaining third OPSIG Team Black novel (after 2012's Hard Target) contains enough edge-of-your-seat action sequences to fill a handful of Mission Impossible movies. When the members of the Operations Support Intelligence Group, an elite black ops unit run out of the Pentagon, break up a suicide bombing cell in Washington, D.C., they stumble across a plethora of international terrorist plots but at the center of it all are ancient scrolls whose secrets, if made public, could change the global geopolitical landscape forever. Tasked with securing the artifacts, the group which includes FBI profiler Karen Vail (the star of her own series); Special Forces operative Hector DeSantos; and Aaron Uziel, the head of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force in Washington embark on a globe-hopping adventure that takes them to New York, London, Paris, and Tel Aviv. While some thriller fans may find the plot too over-the-top, this is an undeniable page-turner.

Well Worth a Read

An unlikely team of individuals from alphabet agencies form a black ops team to eliminate terrorists and secure ancient documents that have the potential to change the face of religion and the power structure of the Middle East. The story is well told, and the plot takes many twists and turns. A subplot involves the develop0ment of a relationship between an Israeli team member and a new addition from Palestine. Karen Vail, an FBI profiler, Hector DeSantis, a special ops veteran, and Aaron Uziel, a terrorism expert, are joined by Mohammad Al-Fahad, a Palestinian, to fight the bad guys and recover the ancient documents. Unfortunately for them, the bad guys are not all that obvious. The story is non-stop adventure as the search takes them around the world. The descriptions are perfect, the writing draws you in, and it is heart-pounding right up to the end. You don't have to read any of the other books in this series to appreciate this story. Admittedly, the team members and their capabilities approaches super-hero level, but it makes the story a cut above. Well worth a read.
