#1 New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Laurens pulls back the curtain on a world that has been hidden from us . . . until now.
Montague has devoted his life to managing the wealth of London’s elite, but at a huge cost: a family of his own. Then the enticing Miss Violet Matcham seeks his help, and in the puzzle she presents him, he finds an intriguing new challenge professionally . . . and personally.
Violet, devoted lady-companion to the aging Lady Halstead, turns to Montague to reassure her ladyship that her affairs are in order. But the famous Montague is not at all what she’d expected—this man is compelling, decisive, supportive, and strong—everything Violet needs in a champion, a position to which Montague rapidly lays claim.
But then Lady Halstead is murdered and Violet and Montague, aided by Barnaby Adair, Inspector Stokes, Penelope, and Griselda, race to expose a cunning and cold-blooded killer who stalks closer and closer. Will Montague and Violet learn the shocking truth too late to seize their chance at enduring love?

Rough around the edges
This installment of the Casebook series has almost transitioned from romance to mystery, but Laurens seems afraid to let go of the sex scenes. Unfortunately, those are included in a stiff, unnatural way, and seem quite outside the flow of the novel. Prosing on about how necessary their husbands are just makes it seem like the women's lives ARE shallow, if the plot went forward without these speeches, it would just seem natural that the couples were content, and the story's focus would be on the relationship of the new characters.
This needed some serious editing, it seemed almost like a first novel.
Trust your characters, they were strong enough to carry the story.
Does Not Disappoint!
After reading almost all Stephanie Laurens' novels, I anxiously awaited Montague's story. I was not disappointed.
She has a gift of interweaving mystery and romance in a way few authors can. In The Masterful Mr. Montague she skillfully writes about the growing intimacies of not one, but three couples. I didn't want it to end.
Thanks Ms. Laurens for a most enjoyable read.
The Masterful Mr Montague
Another great read in this series by Stephanie Laurens. Can't wait for the next books and I hope the series continues for a long time.
Wonderful characters, insight into detective work back then, can't put the books down.
