The Mysterious Governess

#3, Daughters of Sin

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

Two beautiful sisters – one the unacknowledged daughter of a nobleman, the other, society's most celebrated debutante – compete for love amidst the scandal and intrigue of a Regency London Season.

***

Lissa Hazlett lives life in the shadows. The beautiful, illegitimate daughter of Viscount Partington earns her living as drudge to the social-climbing Lamonts while her vain and spoiled half sister, Araminta, enjoys London's social whirl as its most feted debutante.

When Lissa's rare talent as a portraitist brings her unexpectedly into the bosom of society – and into the midst of a scandal involving Araminta and suspected English traitor Lord Debenham – she finds an unlikely ally: charming and besotted Ralph Tunley, Lord Debenham's underpaid, enterprising secretary. Ralph can't afford to leave the employ of the villainous viscount much less keep a wife but as a member of the ton he can help Lissa navigate a perilous web of lies and to ensure everyone gets what they deserve.

A very enjoyable read

Though it was a bit hard to get into and follow the story line at first. Lots of amusing twists and turns that were very clever and entertaining, and since I want to find out what happens to all four of the sisters, am going to purchase the entire set. I'm hooked!

Another Great Regency Romance and Mystery!

Quite a few of the same characters in Dangerous Gentlemen were in this book too, like a continuation of the previous story. But the heroine in this story was Lissa, the illegitimate daughter of a lord who gravitated into the lifestyle of a governess because there was nothing else offered to her by her family. The good thing was she was free to fall in love with Ralph, the youngest son of another lord who had nothing but a lowly job working for a scoundrel planning traitorous activities and would inherit nothing to offer Lissa in marriage. The villain in this story is the same villain in Dangerous Gentlemen, Lord Debenham, who is still creating havoc for Lissa and Ralph as they get embroiled in finding the same letter written by Sir Aubrey’s wife prior to her suicide. The situations that arose and the escapes from various situations involving the letter were hilarious at times because of ridiculous misconceptions by all parties. It takes a good writer to be able to keep all the plots and characters straight in the search for a happy ending for the adventurous couple. I was relieved when their happy ending was reached at the end!
