INCREDIBLE!
Although from a different area (Yarmouth), I was born and raised on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Beston’s year spent on the outer Cape in a time before the internet, many modern technological advances, and before tourism plagued the Cape in summer months, takes me back to my childhood days and running along the beaches, wetlands, and exploring the many kettle ponds pocketing the peninsula.
Beston’s ability to describe the waves crashing on the beach is incredible! His mastery of words to make the reader FEEL the ocean was literary genius. By far my favorite chapters as it took me back to all those years ago. This is definitely a book I will treasure and pass to my kids so they can enjoy the Cape even long after they have left on their own journeys across the oceans!
