The Pretender Bride
Book 4, Central City Brides
This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.
Lost and alone after her step-father is murdered on the streets of New York, Katie takes her two young siblings and claims them as her own. Pretending to be a widow, she flees to Colorado Territory as a mail-order bride and into the arms of the handsome gunsmith, Robert Wallace. The attraction is instant, but just when things are looking up for her, the past comes calling--and Katie discovers harsh truths about her stepfather that put everything at risk. Her stepfather had secrets, and they're not done with her yet.
Robert Wallace was a skeptic until he watched his friends settle happily with their mail-order brides. When his own seemingly perfect family arrives, he's thrilled. Until he discovers his new bride is surrounded by layer-upon-layer of lies. He's been tricked by a scheming woman before and he won't be taken in by another one, no matter how innocent she seems. No matter how badly he wants her.
Katie is determined to keep her new family together, come hell or high water. And no one is going to get in her way. Not the man from New York who followed her to Colorado. Not her past. And not the stubborn, irresistible Scot is who is her husband.
Mediocre at best
If you’re going to write about Scottish or Irish people you need to learn the lingo! “Mum” is an English word for mom, but mam is usually used in Gaelic or Celtic cultures. It really got on my nerves with your last two books.
Also editing. Be sure your story flows and you’re sticking with facts from the beginning to end.
The Pretender Bride
I received an advance copy of this book for my honest review. The opinions expressed are my own. Please don't discount my review because of this, because it IS honest. I don't have to fudge the rating to truly reflect the quality of the book, especially given the quality of the author.
The format is as expected(Why fix what isn't broken?). A woman decides to take a hugh risk and become a Mail Order Bride in the developing West where good women are not easily available. This bride is also bringing along her younger brother and sister. But the groom believes them to be her children, not her siblings. The prospective groom needs some time and a deadly threat to his new family to realize he has fallen in love with his wife. You get to check on the previous couples and see how they're doing too. The format may be the same for all of her books but Cynthia Woolf makes each bride into a well rounded strong female character. And the men are all Man! What I really love about this author's books is their simplicity. The stories remain focused without a lot of the lover's angst I find in a great many other Romance novels. That angst usually drives me crazy wanting to yell at them to get on with it already and just start talking to each other! The length is great for a slow afternoon with your feet up and nothing to do but enjoy yourself.
The book is a stand alone but you will enjoy it more if you read the series in order as characters from previous books do appear in each new book as the series progresses. Enjoy!
