The Rio/Paris Crash: Air France 447

Uncovering the Secrets That Changed Aviation History

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

"Painful, surprising and full of lessons the aviation community was not ready to hear, Roger Rapoport, an honored American author, tells the story of the disaster of Air France flight 447 from Rio to Paris on June 1, 2009. Here is the fascinating story of the long and difficult search for the wreck, an operation of unprecedented scale since the disappearance of the famous pilot Amelia Earhart ... in 1937. Rapoport has taken risks ... as he recounts the drama that took place in the cockpit of Air France 447.... He has seen many people and built a solid case. He is also careful not to draw conclusions based on weak or inaccurate information. This is probably his greatest achievement."

Customer Reviews

Balanced, Insightful

When an Air France jet with 228 passengers takes off from RIo for Paris and disappears for 22 months the world takes notice. Based on many exclusive interviews with Airbus, Air France pilots , the Woods Hole team that found the plane 13,000 feet below the surface of the Atlantic and scores of other experts this is one of the best aviation you will ever read. Don't miss it.

Air France 447

I was interested to read about the recovery of Air France, in that I work in the world of AUVs and ROV. I learned so much more though about the airline industry and how planes are actually flown. It was a gripping read and technologically informative at the same time. I do think whomever edited this work should have taken more time. There were glaring errors in the prose itself. All in all a very sad story and hopefully lessons have been learned.
