Bestselling author Tiffany Reisz returns with an imaginative tale of lust and magic, and the dangers unleashed when the two are combined…

On the day of Lia’s university graduation party, her parents—wealthy art collectors with friends in high places—gift her a beautiful wine cup, a rare artifact decorated with roses. It’s a stunning gift, and one that August Bowman, a friend of her parents and a guest at Lia’s party, also has his eye on. The cup, August tells her, is known as the Rose Kylix, and it’s no ordinary cup. It was used in the temple ceremonies of Eros, Greek god of erotic love, and has the power to bring the most intimate sexual fantasies to life.

But Lia is skeptical of August’s claims of the cup’s mythology and magic—after all, he’s a collector himself, and she suspects he just wants to get his hands on this impressive piece of art. So he dares her to try it for herself, and when Lia drinks from the Rose Kylix she is suddenly immersed in an erotic myth so vivid it seems real—as though she’s living out the most sensual fantasy with August by her side…

Realizing the true power of this ancient and dangerous relic, Lia is even more wary of giving it up, though August insists it is only safe with him. He’s willing to pay the full value of the cup, but Lia has another type of trade in mind. One that finds them more tangled up in each other—and in fantasy—than either was prepared for.

The Rose is the second book in The Red series by Tiffany Reisz. It can be read as a standalone. I actually didn’t read the first book, The Red. It slid right past me. The point is that they are each standalone novels. The synopsis is kickass so I will make this quick.

Lia’s life is forever changed the night of her graduation party. She meets August Bowman, a hottie with a Greek accent and a swoon-worthy wink. She is gifted the most extraordinary cup used twenty-five hundred years ago. And her past shows up looking smug as ever. All she wanted was a small party. What she got was everything she never imagined. A night she will always remember that is the beginning of a week she will never forget...

The cup is not just an old as dirt cup. It’s dangerous. It’s magnificent. It can bring you pleasure and it can bring you pain. August warns Lia of his powers but she isn’t believing him. Can he convince her that it’s real? That fate has stepped in and brought the cup to her? And figure out why it did? He intends to find out himself and to show her the power it holds.

This is very unique tale. I love history. I really do but I never got into mythology. Mixing it in with modern times was fantastic. It gave the story that unique twist and I loved that. I also loved the characters. Their banter was fun. Their connection was beautiful, and their story is full of fantasy, love, and twists. And her parents...omg. They were so much fun.

Overall...I loved it! The characters. The mythology. The writing.

Quotes:

“You’re trouble.”
“You don’t know the half of it,” he said.

“Lia,” her father said. “Where have you been all evening?”
“I was kidnapped and forced to have a threesome with Greek soldiers.”
“Hope you had a nice time,” her mother said.

“It’s morning,” she said.
“Again? Why does this keep happening to me?” He rubbed his eyes.
