Israel’s borders are often vague, always controversial and still undetermined. In The Round Trip, travel writer Yuval Ben-Ami circles Israel’s amorphous and shifting frontier, known as the 1967 borders. For three weeks, Ben-Ami alternates realities, hitching rides with both Israeli settlers and Palestinians, zig-zagging through both sides of the disputed border – through checkpoints, the separation wall, and in and out of Israel’s crossings with Jordan and Egypt. His misadventures get him both wounded and detained. But while violence is palpable and contrasts are sharp, he encounters extraordinary diversity and generosity every step of the way.
The Round Trip was published by +972 Magazine, an independent publication providing fresh, original, on-the-ground reporting and analysis of events in Israel and Palestine. It was made possible by the support of The Lipman-Miliband Trust (UK) and generous readers.
