When a career-ending injury left elite athlete and professional football player Lewis Howes out of work and living on his sister's couch, he decided he needed to make a change for the better. He started by reaching out to people he admired, searching for mentors, and applying his past coaches' advice from sports to life off the field. Lewis did more than bounce back: He built a multimillion-dollar online business and is now a sought-after business coach, speaker, and podcast host.
In the New York Times bestseller The School of Greatness, Howes shares the essential tips and habits he gathered in interviewing "the greats" on his wildly popular podcast of the same name. In discussion with people like Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson and Pencils of Promise CEO Adam Braun, Howes figured out that greatness is unearthed and cultivated from within. The masters of greatness are not successful because they got lucky or are innately more talented, but because they applied specific habits and tools to embrace and overcome adversity in their lives.
A framework for personal development, The School of Greatness gives you the tools, knowledge, and actionable resources you need to reach your potential. Howes anchors each chapter with a specific lesson he culled from his greatness "professors" and his own experiences to teach you how to create a vision, develop hustle, and use dedication, mindfulness, joy, and love to reach goals. His lessons and practical exercises prove that anyone is capable of achieving success and that we can all strive for greatness in our everyday lives.
Great interviews! Inspired and pumped up with each episode
This podcast has meant a lot to me and my career. I came to this country in 2008. I became a victim of the economic downturn and did not find a job for first 7 years. I was depressed, but my husband encouraged me to pursue Masters degree which he believed would help me with my job hunt. I had lost all my self-worth and confidence in the 7 years that I was home doing nothing. I decided to do my Masters online as I did not have the courage for f2f conversations in a class room. I eventually got my first internship in a company. But I still was not sure how I could convert this internship into a job. I was afraid and out of my comfort zone. I remember my first day driving to my internship is when I downloaded the School of Greatness (Ep. #175- “You are Powerful”). Each week, since that day, I listen to your podcast and apply my takeaways to my professional life. I was hired as a full time employee in two months (which by the way was an anomaly as my company had never hired an intern ever!). I was then promoted to a senior position within 4 months, and now I lead the Business Development in my organization. I meet so many companies each day, and I build and sustain relationships with these companies. This is ironic as I did not even have the courage to attend on campus classes during my Masters. I hope to listen, learn and grow more with the GREAT teachers that you bring in each week. Thank you for all your help!
This all happened...because you were athlete
The title says enough.
One of the best books and only book I've ever read from start to finish. Definitely life changing.
