The Science of Concussion

The field of concussion management has evolved rapidly over the past decade. Significant focus has been placed on the knowledge needed to accurately diagnosis, manage, and rehabilitate concussion, as well as best practices for return-to-play decisions. 


“The Science of Concussion” takes a comprehensive look at the scientific evidence regarding variation in symptom presentation and recovery process, as well as the pathophysiology of concussion, injury subtypes, risk factors, outcome, effects of repetitive injury, and treatment protocols. Presented by experts at the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program – one the country’s first and largest concussion programs – the publication uses text, videos, and case studies to explain the program’s approach to the diagnosis and management of concussion, multidisciplinary rehabilitation strategies, and emerging research into sports concussion.
