The seals of Shayol Ghul are weak now, and the Dark One reaches out. The Shadow is rising to cover humankind.
In Tar Valon, Min sees portents of hideous doom. Will the White Tower itself be broken?
In the Two Rivers, the Whitecloaks ride in pursuit of a man with golden eyes, and in pursuit of the Dragon Reborn.
In Cantorin, among the Sea Folk, High Lady Suroth plans the return of the Seanchan armies to the mainland.
In the Stone of Tear, the Lord Dragon considers his next move. It will be something no one expects, not the Black Ajah, not Tairen nobles, not Aes Sedai, not Egwene or Elayne or Nynaeve.
Against the Shadow rising stands the Dragon Reborn.....

Best Book of the Series
I had forgotten how long TSR was until I started reading it about two weeks ago. It has become my favorite of the series. It details the history of the world before and during the Breaking. The characters become greater than they were and finally get a sense of what they are dealing with. It is the beginning of Mat and Perrin's journey to become the men they are later in the series. Rand comes into his own and accepts his destiny as the Dragon Reborn and begins to plot his offense against the Forsaken. The main story, in my opinion, though happens in Tanchico when Nynaeve faces down Moghedian and realizes her own true potential as an Aes Sedai.
If you've never read the series or haven't read it in years, this is the book to start with.
