The Sound of Glass

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

The New York Times bestselling author of A Long Time Gone now explores a Southern family’s buried history, which will change the life of the woman who unearths it, secret by shattering secret.

It has been two years since the death of Merritt Heyward’s husband, Cal, when she receives unexpected news—Cal’s family home in Beaufort, South Carolina, bequeathed by Cal’s reclusive grandmother, now belongs to Merritt.

Charting the course of an uncertain life—and feeling guilt from her husband’s tragic death—Merritt travels from her home in Maine to Beaufort, where the secrets of Cal’s unspoken-of past reside among the pluff mud and jasmine of the ancestral Heyward home on the Bluff. This unknown legacy, now Merritt’s, will change and define her as she navigates her new life—a new life complicated by the arrival of her too young stepmother and ten-year-old half-brother.

Soon, in this house of strangers, Merritt is forced into unraveling the Heyward family past as she faces her own fears and finds the healing she needs in the salt air of the Low Country.

The sound of Glass

I loved this as I have every book Karen has written. She tells stories like no one else.

Great Story!

I anticipated this book for months, and I was certainly not disappointed! It was every bit as good as I had hoped! I enjoyed both the current and historical storylines, and loved the characters! The setting provided a wonderful backdrop for the story, and all of the aspects came together to create a spectacular novel!

When Merritt Heyward finds out that she inherited her late husband's family home, she travels from Maine to where it is located in Beaufort, South Carolina. Her stepmother and half brother that Merritt has had nothing to do with arrive, looking for family ties in the wake of her father's death. Merritt meets her brother-in-law, Gibbes Heyward, for the first time. She soon learns that this family has been keeping dark secrets for many years.

We learn in the historical storyline some events that happened in Gibbes' grandmother's life. As past and present events tie together, some shocking secrets come out.

Great book! I will absolutely be reading it again. This book is a good example of why Karen White is one of my favorite authors. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC in return for an honest review.

Terrific book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The different view points of the characters was an interesting touch. I'm definitely reading more books by Karen White.
