Publisher Description

Follow the troublesome train as it speeds through the day, causing mayhem as it turns too quickly round bends and loses parcels, packets and sacks of potatoes long the way. The fun, lively pictures and silly story in this book help to make reading at home successful and enjoyable. The book can be used in several ways to help beginner readers gain confidence. Start by reading the illustrated words at the edge of each left-hand page with your child, then have fun trying to spot the same words and pictures in the story itself. Other titles in this reading series include The Trouble with Tippers, The Trouble with Tractors and The Trouble with Trucks, Trouble in Space, Trouble in the Jungle, Trouble on the Ice, and Trouble in the Ocean.

    Horrible

Not even a good story. 0 stars if I could. Doesn't even teach a story. My kid asked why the train didn't listen. My kids even knows better!!!! Don't get. 👎

Poor behavior of main character diminishes value

The train in the book consistently disobeys instructions throughout the book resulting in the complete loss of its cargo and this results in the cargo handler getting in trouble. The book ends with the train going off again at high speed with the comment "that's the trouble with trains". While the train does avoid hurting people directly, we do see the cargo from the train fly off through the countryside. In all, a few pages added in showing the train learning its lesson, perhaps with some adjustment of the attitudes depicted through the anthropomorphized train throughout would fix this book enough to let my child read it. The high quality of the artwork makes this even more unfortunate since with minor changes, it could be a good book for children.
