Review: The Upside To Being Single

The Upside to Being Single by Emma Hart is the first of three books surrounding a trio of best friends, Mellie, Peyton and Chloe. A hilarious romance with a slow burn that will drive you wild. Told mostly from Mellie's POV we do get a couple of chapters from Jake's perspective as well.

Mellie is a mess - to quote her directly "an organized hot-mess" and when the hotel where she has been general manager for the past few years comes under new ownership she is waiting for the arrival of the new boss with trepidation. When her friends drag her out, ply her with cocktails and then dare her to flash the Mardi Gras crowd, shocked that she has never done it before, she locks eyes with a gorgeous man on a balcony and goes for it - sans bra. When said hottie turns out to be the new owner she was waiting to meet - well, it gets really awkward at the hotel.

Jake knows what he wants and regardless of the fact that she is his employee, he wants Mellie. He is calm and in control but not an overbearing male character. He is compassionate and consistent and just persists in gently breaking past her barriers.

Well-written with a slow build throughout the entire story to the romantic climax (*wink*) and leading us into the setting for the next story. Loved it! Enjoy!

With hilarious banter, donut filled apologies, and friendship goals that are out of this world, you’ll be sure to laugh out loud while falling in love. Another hit by the Queen of Rom-Com!

I can never get enough of the romantic comedies that Emma Hart writes. They are hilarious and have too many embarrassingly relatable moments to mention. Whenever I finish reading one of her books, I have a smile on my face that lasts for weeks.

After meeting in an extremely awkward and embarrassingly way, Mellie and Jake have to try to maneuver around it as boss and employee. I laughed out loud more times than I could count while reading this story. I couldn’t get enough.

This story is told mainly through Mellie’s POV, it was great to get a few chapters sprinkled in with Jake’s POV. Mellie is a sassy, spunky, and stubborn girl who has witty comebacks and recovers from her clumsiness better than anyone I know in real life. Jake is the typical alpha hot male lead who is blunt and calm. His sweet moments are full of charm and make him truly swoon worthy!

One of the things I love the most about Emma’s books are her secondary characters. The other two parts of the trio of friends in this story is no exception. Mellie, Peyton, and Chloe are what true best friends are made of. I can’t wait to read what they all continue to get up to when we get Peyton and Chloe’s stories.

If you want a story that will make you laugh your butt off and want buy your local donut shop’s entire supply, don’t hesitate! Go get yourself a copy of this book right now!

4.5 stars

I'm always excited to read Emma Hart's newest releases. She always brings us something new. It'll be funny and sexy, even heartfelt and emotional at times. The Upside to Being Single was full of sexual tension as well.
Mellie has great friends. Except for when they dare her to do stuff. She can't say no to a dare. Only, this time it kind of comes back to haunt her when her new boss, Jake, walks in the following day. Of course, Jake isn't complaining. It only makes things awkward if you let it, right. Well, for Mellie, she can make anything awkward. And she does quite frequently.
I loved Mellie and Jake. Their dynamic made every day new and interesting. Between Mellie's clumsy antics and Jake's obsession with making her blush and a little angry, it was comical. There were definitely times I wanted them to stop holding back and just attack each other, but those are also the times that built up to the final moment when you just knew they wouldn't be able to hold back another second. Emma Hart knows how to time these things and make them perfect. It's why I never doubt her!
