**2015 RITA Finalist!**

"With Southern charm and a deeply romantic plot, readers will fall in love with this modern day fairy tale." --RT BOOK REVIEWS

From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery...

In this modern-retelling of "Beauty and the Beast," Savannah Carmichael, betrayed by an unreliable source, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn't been seen since.

After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher's hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy...that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress with a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn't felt in years.

Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other's hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they'll have to decide if the love they found in one another's arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.

** Contemporary Romance. Due to profanity, realistically depicted scenes of war and very strong sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.**

Modern day Beauty and the Beast.

It was so easy to fall in love with this story and the characters. My best friend read it and texted me that it was a must read that made her feel "squishy". And she was right. It definitely pulled at the heart strings.

At one time Savannah and Asher both left their small southern town Danvers, Virginia to see the world. Years later they're forced to return home broken in body and spirit. At least Savannah had family to return to. Asher had no family or friends
waiting for him when he returned from war with disfiguring wounds to his face and arm. The town was less than welcoming. He instantly became the town freak. He hides away in his home refusing to face people who only look at him in disgust or can't bare to look at him at all. Miss Potts, his house keeper, has been his only companion for the last eight years.

Savannah's career in journalism was crushed along with her heart by her boyfriend in New York. When she gets the chance to get back into her writing career she sets her sights on a story of an American War Hero that was ostracized by his home town. Of course that happens to be Asher. She never expected him to agree to be interviewed. Neither of them expected to fall in love.

There are so many sweet moments as their friendship develops. Savannah looks at Asher like he's a man, not a beast. She's curious and not afraid to ask the hard questions and Asher quickly discovers he can share things with her and it not scare her away. I loved the southern drawl the author used. Being from the south I can say the southern charm to the story felt real. There were little things like the mention of the movie SHAG and the sassy attitude of Savannah's sister that endeared me even more. Savannah is strong willed but her recent heart break has her a little reluctant to open her heart completely to another man, especially one she barely knows. Asher on the other hand falls hard and fast.

No one understands how Savannah can look past Asher's mangled face but her honest affection towards him gives him the courage to finally seek medical/surgical help to repair his injuries so he can actually rejoin the community. Unfortunately another bastard swoops in to take advantage of Savannah and not only ruin her career again but possibly destroy what she has found with Asher. They have to learn the hard way how strong their love is. And Savannah learns a little too late that her career isn't what she wants most in life. I cried and ached for both characters as they faced heart break.

In the end, both characters are stronger and their futures brighter. Together they're ready to start forever. You will also love Miss Potts. She is so much like Miss Potts from Beauty and The Beast. Her character was perfect.

Loved this different take on a love story! Asher and Savannah were wonderful together

Page turner

This book was amazing! I don't leave reviews too often but this story touched my heart, so I felt that a review is what this book definitely needed. I couldn't put the book down and it made me feel every emotion. It's a real page turner. I saw this book a couple times and passed it by before I actually decided to read it. This is one book you won't regret buying. I love how she dedicated proceeds to operation mend, this is an author with a good heart
