Description

William Dane is a man with a nasty but valuable secret, one that all the cutthroats in the galaxy are itching to get their hands on. Dane must perfect the art of concealing himself from the crazed factions yearning for the power that this secret can give them; otherwise he will die an unspeakable death at their hands. He is a man on the run from the entire galaxy, and he must be constantly vigilant to ensure that the key to ruling the universe does not fall into the wrong hands. This classic science fiction masterpiece satisfies readers’ every desire for adventure and intrigue.

James Gunn has worked in publishing, has been the director of public relations at Kansas University, and has served as an English professor. He is now a professor emeritus of English and the founding director of the Center for the Study of Science Fiction. Gunn’s work has won many awards, including the Byron Caldwell Smith Award, the Edward Grier Award, the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award, the Eaton Award, the Pilgrim Award, and the Hugo Award for Isaac Asimov: The Foundations of Science Fiction. Gunn was a guest of honor at the 2013 World Science Fiction Convention and has served as president of the Science Fiction Writers of America and of the Science Fiction Research Association.

Gunn is also the distinguished author of numerous science fiction novels and shorter works, including The Listeners, The Dreamers, The Witching Hour, The Joy Machine (with Theodore Sturgeon), Crisis!, The Burning, The Magicians, Station In Space and The Immortals (on which the 1969 TV series, The Immortal, was based). His latest novel is Transcendental. He also edited a series of science fiction anthologies intended for use in teaching courses on the subject, The Road To Science Fiction, in six volumes.
