In the volatile tinderbox of the Horn of Africa, Morgan Adler has made the paleoanthropological find of a lifetime. The discovery brings her to the attention of a warlord eager to claim both Morgan and the fossils, forcing her to make a desperate dash to the nearby US military base to beg for protection.

Master Sergeant Pax Blanchard has orders to intercept Dr. Adler before she reaches the base, and in so doing saves her life. After a harrowing afternoon he safely delivers her to his commanders, only to find his responsibilities toward protecting the obstinate archaeologist have only just begun.

Morgan and Pax are forced to work together in the Djiboutian desert heat, but it is the fire that ignites between them that threatens to combust them both. For the Green Beret, involvement with the woman he must protect is a threat to his career, while for the archaeologist, the soldier is everything she never wanted but somehow can’t resist. When Morgan uncovers a mystery surrounding Djibouti’s most scarce and vital resource, the danger to her reaches the flashpoint. For Pax, protecting her is no longer a matter of following orders, and he’ll risk everything to bring her back alive.

From Publishers Weekly

Jul 17, 2017 – Set in the turbulent country of Djibouti, the first entry in Grant's Flashpoint series works better as suspense than romance. Dr. Morgan Adler, a paleoanthropologist, knows that her discovery of a Lucy-like fossilized human will significantly change what people know about the predecessors of the human species. What she doesn't know is that someone has attached a bomb to her car, planning to detonate it once she's in the secure compound of Camp Citron, the local military base. Fortunately she's saved by Pax Blanchard, head of a Special Forces team stationed in Djibouti. Together they discover that the fossils are just a piece of a bigger political puzzle and that the warlord involved is desperate to get his hands on Morgan. Grant's greatest strength is her ability to write gripping suspense with a wonderfully brisk pace, but the romance can be clunky. The scenes between Morgan and Pax are fine, but don't really help build the relationship and feel a bit episodic. However, readers preferring more political intrigue and great action in their romance will be willing to overlook that. (BookLife)

Tinderbox is the first installment in the new series Flashpoint by Rachel Grant. The story is set in the lawless land of Djibouti, where China and USA, made a power play for the region to obtain a more favorable present position in Africa.
Tinderbox is without a doubt another spectacular, well written book, that takes us through the heartwarming, emotional journey of the inner conflicts of a Green Beret and a penniless Archeologist, in the middle of a warlord and government conflict.
Pax and Morgan have a scorching chemistry that could jeopardize their life and the success of their job.

Rachel Grant’s Evidence & Flashpoint series are a must read

It's a cold and rainy day and I started this book at 8:15 this morning and could not put it down.

I loved the Evidence series and was thrilled to find Rachel Grant's new Flashpoint series, both series are fantastic and each one is better than the last. Exciting plot that keeps you involved to the very end. As always the excitement keeps you turning the pages. It’s an intriguing story-line with many twists, surprises and very well written. The main characters are well developed and have an interesting relationship. I also like it when characters from past books show up and help. However, you do not need to read the books in order, they are related but not dependent on the other stories. Absolutely riveting. I could not put the book down until I had read it in full. This was her best one yet.

Another 5 Star Book!

One of the her best works yet! I have read all of Grant's works and I love her style of writing! This book is yet again was a perfect 5 from Grant! I love her use of strong, intellegent women in her books that may or may not need help from any man! And the men may be alphas but they respect and love the intellegent strong willed women they meet. I love how Grant uses real world issues and situations with acuracy and precision with attention to deals and events. And the romantic side of her books is off the charts. . .chemistry is spades! Highly recommend this book no matter if you are new to Grant or a long time fan like me!
