Description

USA Today bestselling author Mira Lyn Kelly cranks up the heat for two lifelong friends whose most secret longings come true in every delectable way.

Vivacious and successful, Ava Meyers is living her dream life, except for one thing: Ever since childhood, she’s been in love with her best friend . . . and she’s never admitted it. Back then, Sam Farrow was a damaged young man with a tough past. Now he’s supremely confident, super-sexy, and totally untouchable—until the night when Sam pretends to be Ava’s boyfriend to save her from some unwanted attention. In a moment of weakness, Ava finds out that a decades-long friendship is no match for blistering sexual chemistry.

After years of denying his own feelings, Sam finds that one amazing night with Ava isn’t enough to chase away all the pent-up fantasies. So he proposes they spend a few weeks driving each other wild, exhausting their every desire, and then return to their perfect platonic relationship like nothing ever happened. But Sam’s plan has one fatal flaw: the part where they give each other up. Because the more they let go of their inhibitions, the more they’re tempted to never go back.

-- My Thoughts --
Purely enjoyable characters and incredibly fluid writing style. Sexy, sweet... Hot!
Friends for twenty years, Sam and Ava fake a relationship to dissuade a persistent co-worker of Ava's from his continual pursuits. Only, both have much stronger feelings for the other that have been locked away for far too long for this to be pulled off innocently. I loved the lead characters and although I get the sense that the secondary characters had a fun introduction in the first book, Ms. Kelly does a pretty good job of allowing new readers the chance to enjoy them without feeling too lost. The dialogue and interaction is dynamic; smart, funny, snarky, believable. The plot is pretty "standard fare" for any friends-to-lovers story, but there are just enough little twists and quirks to keep it fresh. The fluidity of the writing is amazing, it makes for a VERY enjoyable read. The conflicts were multi-layered; some resolved quick and neat, some not as much. But by the end, resolutions were found in a mature manner, providing a solid, heart-warming ending. The predictability was fairly average, given the nature of the storyline, but it was an extremely enjoyable feel-good book with plenty of hot stuff thrown in.

friends and lovers..good or bad

ARC courtesy of NetGalley for an honest review.

It's an overall good book. They met as kids..became best friends....she fell in love....they kept their friendship strictly platonic until "the kiss"

I loved Ava and Sam's story. Sam was so funny and just always there...like a great guy best friend should be. At times Ava was working my nerves. She wanted to step into this thing because she she SURE she could play the game but not giving up all the information she just took on the annoying quality to her at times. Outside of that I loved her. Sam's background broke my heart but it helped us to understand him. He is just a man's man...with a tool belt (fan's self).

There was some parts that I did skimmed over because I felt it was just repetitive (you know like the movie that should of ended an hour ago but it now going into hour 3). The skimmed portion was very small, though I did get the important part of it.

The end and epilogue be bawling like a baby...I'm a sucka for a happy ending (hence why I love romance novels). It was just perfect.

Heartfelt confessions, laughingly inappropriate pet names this is a wonderful story.

A friends to lovers story with a clueless (almost) hero who almost waits until it’s too late before he actually takes a close look at his feelings. Ava and Sam have been friends for years: although Ava has been in love with Sam for most of that time. And, like most of the stories that use this trope there is an initial set up, a game, wedding, or roommate situation to start the story.

Ava cajoles Sam into being a date - mostly to fend off some ardent admirers: and when a kiss that is times to make a statement becomes so much more, the story is off and running. These two have all of the chemistry that one would expect in a romance: and the interplay carries the familiarity of being friends for a long time. But they both have their own issues: Ava doesn’t always make the best choices, a bit too quick to protect her heart but she is sassy, solid and loyal to Sam. For his part, Sam has managed to hide away the worst of his past traumas: he’s dedicated to the friendship he has with Ava, but he has little to no awareness of the depth of his feelings.

But when he finally realizes that he can’t, well doesn’t want to live without Ava, his dedication that never wavered, from when they were children is wholly palpable to readers. From a very broken childhood, to a solidly giving and loving man, Sam has come full circle. His finding joy in everything that he didn’t think he wanted and now can’t live without with the one woman he never believed he deserved is a wonderful conclusion.

Heartfelt confessions, laughingly inappropriate pet names, humor, heart, heat and a journey as their relationship redefines itself: this is a wonderful story.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
